About this ebook

These are the stories of mysteries, willful deception and conspiracies.
Flight 19 the loss of Five US Navy TBM Avengers and one PBM Mariner in the Bermuda triangle. Six airplanes and their crews lost without any trace. To this day, nothing has ever been recovered that can positively be identified as coming from any of the aircraft. Theories abound in a story where there is no physical evidence. This essay simply looks at the facts as they were presented to the Naval accident board in 1945 and attempts to make sense of them.
In 1947 something unusual happened near the Air Force Base at Roswell, New Mexico. The base was the home of the 509th Composite Group, the elite group of B-29's that was formed specifically to drop atomic bombs. The 509th was the only group in the world at that time that was capable of employing nuclear weapons. An object was found that many people believed was the wreckage of an extraterrestrial craft. The Base Commander authorized a statement to the local news media to that effect. The next day the Commander travels to higher headquarters to show the find to his superiors. The press is told that the crash debris was just a weather balloon which the Commander apparently was too stupid to recognize as such. Forty years later, the Air Force admits that the story was a lie and they had indeed covered up the actual events. Their explanation is even more ludicrous than the original story. This story presents the facts and the cover-up and attempts to explain them.
John F Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, was brutally murdered on live TV in front of the entire country. Nearly a year later the Warren Commission offered it's explanation of the event. Their report was so poorly done and so obviously biased, that it simply fostered more questions and conspiracy theories. When did the trial of Lee Harvey Oswald take place? Where was the cross-examination of witnesses? The Dallas Police Force solves the crime of the century within hours only to have the suspect murdered right under their watchful eyes in their own Police Station. Were they the greatest law enforcement unit in the country or the most inept? What about Jack Ruby, the murderer's, murderer? He had clear and obvious connections to organized crime yet the Warren Commission was unable or unwilling to find them.
Finally, more than fifty years after the fact, this story presents a plausible explanation of what happened. It's the story that no one wanted to hear in 1963.

A Riddle, A Mystery and Sedition

Three Unsolved Mysteries of the Twentieth Century

There are many mysteries in life, but three, in particular, have caught my interest. The Roswell incident in New Mexico in 1947 was intriguing. The missing group of airplanes in the Bermuda triangle called Flight 19 and the Kennedy assassination have all interested me greatly.

The problem with all these public sector mysteries, is that over time they are embellished and it’s often difficult to separate the original story from the embellishments of time. It’s also possible that there are deliberate mis-information campaigns which in their own way serve to discredit the original story.

This is particularly true of the Roswell incident. A group came forward in the early nineties claiming to have video tape of an autopsy performed on one of the aliens that was recovered in the UFO crash at Roswell. The tape looked realistic at first glance but upon further examination, it was proven to be a fraud. This in turn, was supposed to debunk the entire story of the incident at Roswell. The original story from 1947 didn’t say anything about recovering any aliens, living or dead. That’s a fairly important point to have overlooked.

The tape was merely the fabrication of some opportunists attempting to make a quick profit. The two events had nothing to do with each other and the tape did nothing to discredit the original story.

You’ll find the accounts of some of these stories heavily infused with sarcasm. The purpose of this is to illustrate just how absurd the government accounts of an incident like this can be and yet they are often believed.

I had the opportunity some years ago to interview a woman who had grown up in Japan during World War II. She was 17 years old when the war ended. She lived about 60 miles to the west of Tokyo. She was close enough to the city to know of the horror that was visited upon that city without being part of it.

I asked her, What was it like for you as the end of the war got closer and you could see American airplanes flying over nearly every day?

I thought we were winning right up until the time that the Emperor made his radio broadcast, she replied.

What would make you think that? I asked incredulously.

Because that’s what they told us on the radio, she answered.

But didn’t it seem strange to you when they told you that you were winning in one island group and then another island group and all the time these battles are getting closer and closer to Japan? And then one day you see hundreds of these shiny B-29 American bombers overhead and you still believe that your side is winning?

Yes. We believed what they told us on the radio, she said.

There is an element of the Japanese culture that made them more gullible to propaganda from the nation’s leadership. They were, perhaps a bit more easily manipulated by the country’s news media, because of their innate belief in the righteousness of the Japanese empire and their reverence for authority. But, Americans at this time tended to believe their leadership too, no matter how absurd the story they told might be. This has of course changed. The U-2 incident, the Kennedy assassination and numerous CIA-led adventures to overthrow foreign governments have all caused great distrust of the U.S. government. Today, everything is viewed as a conspiracy which serves to distract from real incidents that deserve to be investigated.

So, as I detail three of my favorite conspiracies, let me de-bunk two, that I find to be not only untrue but, distasteful.

    The Moon Landing, July 1969

The Communist/socialists hate the United States and all its great achievements. They attempt to discredit and make light of everything good and decent about this country.

I grew up in the 1960s and NASA and the space program were immense sources of pride for the entire nation. They inspired an entire generation of Americans with the notion that we could achieve anything if we put our minds to it and worked together.

I still have vague memories of Alan Shepard’s flight in May of 1961 as he became the first American in space. I can remember the names of all seven of the original Mercury astronauts. I remember watching the lunar lander that carried Armstrong and Aldrin as it made its descent toward the lunar surface and breathing a collective sigh of relief with the rest of the free world as Armstrong made that fateful radio call, that the Eagle had landed safely.

It was a moment of enormous pride for most Americans and it’s painful to see and hear now that some Americans think it was all a fraud. The plain truth is that it was easily verifiable by the Russians and many others around the world. The Soviets had attempted an unmanned landing just days before the landing of Apollo 11. Their lander was called Luna 15. It malfunctioned and was destroyed as it attempted to land. The Soviets would have loved nothing better than to dis-prove the American effort. They could not.

This is just another attempt by radical leftists from within and without the United States to show their contempt for this country, it’s history, it’s culture and its accomplishments.

The landing of Apollo 11 on the moon was genuine. This is a no-brainer that doesn’t even deserve to be questioned.

The Space program gradually fell into obscurity and today, there is no manned space program at NASA. The shuttle was a great step forward in technology and it was very useful but, it was essentially just a flying dump trunk that took off, dropped things off and came back. Certainly, it was a vital step forward but, it didn’t go anywhere. An entire generation might have been inspired as we were, if NASA had established a goal for the shuttle. A lunar colony or even better, one on Mars would have fired the imaginations and dreams of millions of Americans. Instead, we wasted trillions of dollars trying to fight a war on poverty that can never be won.

    9/11/2001

I was in an early morning simulator session on Tuesday Sept 11, 2001. The period began at 5:30 AM and finished just before 10 AM eastern time in Atlanta. The ride had gone reasonably well for both of us. It was our maneuvers evaluation ride for both me and my co-pilot. The next morning, Wednesday, would be his check ride. The rules at that time said that all Captains were required to have a fully qualified co-pilot on their rating ride, and he wouldn’t be fully qualified until after he had passed his check ride. The next day, Thursday, I would have my rating ride and after successfully completing it, we would both be fully rated on the Boeing 757 and 767 family of airplanes.

As we waited for the simulator to come down off motion, our instructor said, This will be a really short de-brief. You guys can get out of here and prepare for tomorrow.

As we left the simulator we headed toward the restroom. I passed a friend in the hallway and said hello, grinning broadly. I was clearly happy with the results of the simulator session.

Did you hear what happened? he asked me.

No, what? I answered expecting to hear some witty remark.

Some terrorists hijacked a couple of airplanes and crashed them into the World Trade Centers.

B.S,! I thought for sure it was a joke of some kind.

    No, really, he said.

Anyone who has studied about the religion of Islam knows that it was spread through violence and terrorism. Many religions chose to spread their philosophy through reasonable discussions and acts of charity. Islam has always found that people respond better to the point of a sword. Convert or die is the unofficial motto of the Islamic faith. The religion has prospered with nearly one billion believers. Non-believers are not tolerated. The price that you pay for even questioning the religion is death. As an example, recall the French newspaper that printed an article that was unfavorable to Islam. The writers were murdered.

Tens of thousands of protesters turned out all over the world to protest a political cartoon that was critical of the religion. Defenders of the faith say that the violent Muslims are only a small percentage of the total. Not true, many of the faithful may not act out these violent acts but, they quietly believe that these atrocities are retribution from Allah for the sinful acts that the Infidels commit.

Islam is about obedience. Total and unquestioning obedience. It cannot survive with modern ideas of self-determination and independent thought. Islam cannot stand up to any scrutiny. It will either morph into something more reasonable and tolerant of others or it will die a fiery death.

Do I believe that fanatic, frothing at the mouth, Muslims were capable of perpetrating the violence of 9/11? Absolutely. Without any question.

As to the technical side of the matter; what brought down the buildings? In the world of engineering, torque or rotational force, equals force times moment arm.

In other words, the building acted as a lever. The higher up the building was hit the more leverage or force was exerted on the entire building. A fully loaded 767 weighed about 300,000 lbs. and if the airplane hit at the 80th floor or so, that comes out to about 360,000,000-foot lbs. of torque. Ask anyone who has ever worked with a torque wrench, if that sounds like a lot of force. It speaks highly of the construction of the buildings that they didn’t fall immediately. The fire that ensued further weakened the structures and once the top floors began to collapse the lower floors fell like dominoes.

Islamic terrorists claimed responsibility for the horror that they had caused. They were and probably still are, proud of it. This attack and the 36-hour attack on Mumbai, India are just two of the most egregious acts committed by the followers of Islam. They are by no means the only ones. Any attempt to shift the blame on to anyone else is a shameful lie.

Flight 19; An Afternoon in the Bermuda Triangle

On a beautiful autumn afternoon in South Florida, five U.S. Navy aircraft with a total of 14 crewmen, take off on a routine training mission. Hours later, after a series of bizarre and confusing radio calls, the planes vanish without a trace. Several airplanes are dispatched to search for the missing airmen. One plane quickly develops radio problems and must turn
