About this ebook
Written in a poetry style. Feel the excitement of a new college, new friends, sports through the emotions of young college students Greg and Ariel. Greg may achieve great fame as a basketball player, but Ariel on the women’s team is a big challenge, in more ways than one. Former student Rea, sister to Arial, is now a music star and Kip, brother to Greg, is a professor at his alma mater. Why is it so hard to seize that moment when a best friend becomes more than a friend? And when will one have the courage to seize that moment?
The story is told as one might hear it, in all its musical quality, while sitting at Grandfather's knee. If you listen quietly while reading, see if you "hear" his voice in that deep, "sing-song" style of old: "There was a village, not far removed from the city, not far, that is, by car . . ."

Bonjour. I’m Kat Jaske.Las Vegas resident––wellmore precisely Henderson,Nevada, which is right nextdoor•Married to Bryant Jaske-Moser and mother of Daniel Jaske-Moser*Runner – Helped my crosscountryteam win state championshipOhio state championship (5-K race). I’meven more proud of the next year whenour team placed fourth, but I ran apersonal best State Course time of a littleover 19 and a half minutes.• Fencer – Yes, with swords, especiallysabers. You know, the musketeer thing.Or Zorro.• Singer• Active in church• Love my black cat, Minnesota and her younger sister Abigail• Writer – Historical fiction, science fiction, fantasy, poems, articles, all sorts of itemsfor students and parentsMany of my ideas for writing or teaching come to me when I am running. Unfortunately, I can’t carry a journal with me, so I have to wait until I finish, walk in the door, and then grab a pencil and paper, or a computer, and put them down. I have always loved reading and writing, voraciously. Mom’s favorite story is about the time she had to punish me for something (which I am probably innocent of doing) by saying, “No reading. Do not go to your room. Sit here and watch TV.” I hated TV.Writing takes passion (a love of words in my opinion) and when you have that passion, it permeates everything. Word scrambles and other word games and puzzles and other thinking games are “cool”.I graduated from Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, N.C. in three and a half years with a double major in English and Psychology. After working two years and saving every penny I could, I headed to France and spent two years studying there. Then returned to the U.S. to work a couple years before attending UNLV where I finished my Masters of Education and teaching certificate. Now I spend time teaching my students the finer points of the French language and culture, and encouraging them to read and write.

There is a village, not far
removed
from the city, not far, that is, by car
its only claim to memory’s fame
a small university of great acclaim, or
rather a center of significant academic renown
– a school nestled in the curving nook
of two lonesome cloud shrouded summits
guarded by the gentle slopes of other rising mountains
through which one plodding river runs . . .
through the valley which the restless river runs
long that monument to higher education stood or perhaps
it stands
buildings on its, the school’s, campus
it had in plentiful display
traditional brick of ashy red and faded tans
neoclassic symmetry and off-white pillars round
dormitories, offices, and classroom housing
– rooms enough for just
some 2500 students and 130 professors to roam
and still have places amore to explore
It was from here
this small village where he had dwelt all his years
Greg found
he desired deeply to stray
Yet for education superior he could not better do than
that old university not far from his home (some thirty minutes by foot-strolling)
so there, as his eighteenth year tolled in
he went
– determined to excel to such an extent
he’d be able to leave his small village far
– behind
exchange
