Ayne had never been to the beach before, and she didn’t really understand why she was here now. It was an impulse; no, maybe it was a yearning that brought her to this magnificent place of beauty and solitude.

The sight of the waves rolling onto the beach in the pale moonlight was enchanting, otherworldly in her naïve mind. From her dark balcony, Ayne could hear the music coming from the bar; she could see the couples strolling along the walkway beneath her, and she was aware of the void that filled her, gripped her, and sent her in search of something.

She didn’t know what the void was, but it had lured her to this place with promises that only she could hear in her mind.
