This book is dedicated to all the men that are not afraid to fight for and protect the woman who has stolen their hearts. Thank you for being persistent when we are too stubborn to see or too fearful to acknowledge the obvious. Love, relationships, and partnerships require work and often times we don’t acknowledge your hard work. Thank you to those of you who don’t mind putting in the work for the love you deserve.

Thank you to all my readers! Enjoy!

    -Xan Tucker

Dillon Knight, one of Chicago’s most successful politicians and businessmen and every woman’s dream come true. His masculine build left a woman’s mouth-watering and eyes wide. Standing six feet, four inches tall with an athletic build, clean-cut blond hair, and light brown eyes, what was there not to love about the man? He demanded the attention of everyone when he entered the room, and damn it, he had everyone’s attention at the moment. Everything about the man said he was money. From the way his navy blue designer suit hugged his muscular arms and shoulders to his overly expensive designer shoes. This man was hot and he knew it. And so did the three hundred-plus women in the venue. Dillon maneuvered through the crowd to seek his seat at the front, as he’s the guest speaker for a fundraising event to raise awareness of the continued violence in Chicago’s inner city neighborhoods. An expected event for a senator who is up for re-election soon.

Dillon surveyed the room, taking in its chic and modern décor. The room was tastefully decorated in black-and-white paisley patterns with hints of color here and there. It definitely wasn’t his preferred choice in décor, but it worked well for the atmosphere created. Soft jazz music played as guests began arriving and socializing. Dillon could hardly believe that he had made Chicago home and sparked a successful political career. Now that he was up for re-election, he knew things in his life would get hectic soon enough. He made his rounds, cordially interacting with his political counterparts and community leaders.

Tuesday Cole paced the floor, yelling at her best friend of twenty-three years to get a move on. She hated being late to any event, especially ones that were as important as the one tonight. Tuesday hadn’t made her reputation as a prestigious attorney in Chicago by being late. Since she was making a bid for the state senate, she made it her business to attend political events as much as possible. Tonight’s event was important because she would get to personally size up her competition. She’d seen the charismatic, unbelievable sexy Dillon Knight several times, but she had yet to meet him personally. She planned to change that tonight if her supermodel best friend, Kristy Lauderdale, would get a move on it.

The event was scheduled to start in thirty-five minutes, and here they were still at her best friend’s condo downtown. Without traffic, and there was always traffic in Chicago, you were looking at a thirty-minute drive. Damn it, Tuesday cursed herself for even inviting Kristy.

Come on, Kris, you know how important it is for me to be on time and make my rounds with the powers that be. It was pointless, as Tuesday was yelling at a closed bedroom door.

Okay, hon. I’m almost done. I promise. Three more minutes.

Two, and if you aren’t out by then, I’m leaving without you. And you know I will do it.

Tuesday paced the floor, criticizing herself for not going with the original black dress she had laid out for the night. But black was so cliché, and she was anything but. At five feet, six inches tall, caramel brown skin, natural hair that was currently straight, dark brown eyes, full hips, she was in immaculate shape. The dress she had decided on for tonight revealed that shape for the world to see. Her royal blue, knee-length dress was hugging her voluptuous hips and proudly showed her long legs. She was sure to catch the attention of several men, including Senator Knight. That is, of course, if he were interested in black women.

Finally, Kris appeared from behind the closed doors, and as much as Tuesday hated to admit it, she was stunning. Kris would definitely be getting a lot of attention tonight from all men, regardless of their race preference. Pulling her by the arm, Tuesday headed toward the door.

Damn it, Kris, we are late again. By the way, you look stunning. And you should because it took long enough.

Kris laughed but decided not to respond.

My car or yours? Tuesday asked.

Definitely not yours with your bad driving ass.

After getting settled in Kris’s red sports car, only fitting for an international supermodel, they were speeding through traffic. Miraculously, they arrived in one piece within twenty-five minutes.

Tuesday and Kristy entered the room just as Dillon took the podium. Tuesday rolled her eyes at Kris for making her late yet again. To make matters worse, they were seated near the front next to the podium. Clearly, she would be noticed, with Kristy turning heads all the way to their seats.

    Thanks a fucking lot, Kris.

Dillon watched Tuesday Cole with keen eyes, and an odd chilled came over him as she sashayed her way to the table closest to the podium. He felt an odd attraction to the woman who he knew as Tuesday Cole, a prestigious criminal defense attorney who was obviously after his seat in the state senate. Putting on his political game face, one he had perfected over the years with his charming and pleasant expression, he glanced around the room and knew he had grabbed everyone’s attention. It was the same charming smile and pleasant expression that had women swooning at him. Speaking, Dillon glanced around the room, making eye contact and observing his listeners. They were honed in, and most of the women were hanging on to his every word. Dillon and Tuesday’s eyes locked, and something sparked. He shifted at the podium and continued to speak, but he made sure he didn’t make eye contact with Tuesday, or anyone at her table, for that matter, the duration of his speech.

Why are we here again? Kristy
