    About this ebook

    “Androcles and the Lion” is Bernard Shaw's socio-philosophical play-parable in two acts with a prologue. In this play, the playwright expressed his attitude towards Christianity, and to the possible paths of human progress. As the literary basis of the play, Shaw took an old legend about the friendship of man and a lion, set forth by the Roman writer of the 2nd century Aulus Gellius. Shaw made the protagonist a Christian and introduced a new character - the Christian Lavinia, who shares the views of the author of the play.

    This newly edited version of the play is accompanied with “Revolutionizing the Drama” – an essay including biography of author and in-depth analysis of his work.
