About this ebook

Aristotle once said: "some animals are cunning and evil-disposed...some are gentle and easily tamed...some kinds of animals burrow...some  animals are nocturnal...others use the hours of daylight..." In this little collection of animal stories, you will find animals that fit these descriptions  and others that  have characteristics  and personalities that fit no particular category. These are animals going about  the business of being animals, dealing with their daily lives, even though  it may look a bit cock-eyed to the humans around  them. One story may touch your heart, while another  may leave you in awe...one or more may inspire or tug at the corners of your mouth  but hopefully all will entertain.

    WELCOME TO BEARDSLEY

    SKEDADDLED

    The Pre-cursor

This story is about a town of unfriendly politicians who had to be taught a lesson about how to treat their animal neighbors. It involves a much-disputed area located at the edge of town and the mayor and his cohorts want to take over this lushly green area and turn it into a dog park. They claim that the present occupants, the gophers, are not properly tending the area and that they should be removed.

Needless to say, the gophers objected and the uprising began.

The town is called BEARDSLEY. It is not an unusual town although it is run, albeit very badly, by a city council and an unusually incompetent mayor. Before it is all said and done, the mayor and his council will have to leave town to escape the wrath of the gophers.

    SKEDADDLED

All around us, we heard noises, human noises. We had heard them before but not like this. We didn’t know if this meant trouble or just the same nosy humans
