Preface
This is a story of the present and the past and a reminder that history repeats itself.
That’s not necessarily best.
As a proud American-who gets goosebumps when I stand, cross my heart, and who occasionally sheds, without embarrassment, a tear when I hear the national anthem and see the presentation of the flag- I am concerned.
All my life I have been a political-phile and over the last quarter of my life I have been intrigued with the Mormons.
My obsession and writing Mormon history, most recently the Mormon founder, Joseph Smith Jr., and Hancock County, Illinois continues to pique my curiosity.
That interest has led me to write two hands’ full of Mormon-related books.
Now I have had a convergence of two long-time interests, Mormonism and politics.
The terms mobocracy, dictatorship, theocracy, and monarchy are not regularly used words in our day-to-day vocabularies.
However, the definitions are inter-related.
As a challenge, this book will try to reduce each of these terms to nonacademic explanations in comparing the similarities of two men, Donald J. Trump and Joseph Smith Jr.
Although separated by almost two centuries, they are both similar.
Throw into the mix a prophetic warning by Abraham Lincoln.
Enjoy.
Introduction
There are startling similarities in the governance styles of Donald J. Trump and Joseph Smith, Jr.
Of course there have been several others of the same ilk in the intervening years between Trump and Smith. Those include Adolf Hitler (Germany), Joseph Stalin (USSR), Kim Jong-il (North Korea), Saddam Hussein (Iraq), Fidel Castro (Cuba), Benito Mussolini (Italy), and others.
Although differing in their methods in wrestling absolute control, the bottom line is that all of them including Trump and Smith-are philosophically alike.
Whatever the form of autocratic government is called, it begins and is rooted in absolute and despotic control, i.e., a dictatorship.
More often than not, that control (which can be based in religious belief, force of arms or a consolidation of wealth) is vested in one person, usually a man.
A gender exception is Indira Gandhi of India who obliterated the India constitution with a stroke of a pen and among other atrocities ordered millions of men sterilized.
Whether the form of government is called:
Mobracy-(political control of a group as a ruling class)-or
A Theocracy-Government ruled or subject to a religious authority.
There must be a strong hand, a dictator, in charge or in control.
This is a study of the similarities of governance of Donald J. Trump and Joseph Smith Jr.
