About this ebook
The werewolf exists! For those who don’t believe in it, they must read this book. In its pages, we bring the werewolf and we are not talking about fiction, we are talking about reality. Of a being from remote times, but a real creature, that still lives in a time of technologies and future. It’s the werewolf known from the stories told in nights of the haunt and full moon.
The creature that chooses Joanópolis as its homeland and where it has fantastic stories like the baby werewolf and the transformation seen by the cops. A place where many have suspicions about the identity of the creature, that could even be the neighbor next door.
A book inspired by stories kept trough time and that the pop culture preserved to the future. And now we immortalize it in a form of a book report.
Among the many reports of werewolves in this book, one caught the attention: one of two cops that have registered one metamorphosis in the occurrence report. It should be like any other call if it wasn’t for what those two cops found on that house. What they saw through that window never left their minds, it marked their lives.
Beside them, a lot of other interviewed describe in this book their contact with the creature. It is not just a tribute to the pop culture, it is a report book that verifies: the werewolf exists!

Preface
Studious like I am of the story of the civilization as foundation to the comprehension of the actual expressions of the spontaneous Brazilian culture – our folklore – something that always intrigued me was: that if there are specialized reporters attending certain matters – Religion, food, politics, arts, sports, catastrophes – why when we come to the subject of folklore (expression of the noncommercial pop culture) we designate a professional randomly, without the preoccupation to evaluate if he is an expert, if he presents conditions to observe and report in an adequate way what he is going to witness and listen? Like that manifestations, revelries, Joanine festivals and customs, for example, are interpreted at the whim of the imagination of each one, without any criteria and without the slightest embarrassment, numerous times.
It is with satisfaction, therefore, that I finish the reading of werewolf Exists! A reported adventure of two new journalists that deserve that title , they are Silvana Godoy e Paiva Júnior, trainees of the PUC-Campinas, presenting their Experimental Project under the guidance of Prof. Celso Falaschi. An exciting report about the realities uncovered and lived, in the pursuit of the Werewolf and its mysteries.
The Werewolf is also my old acquaintance.
My graduation thesis of the Folklore School, founded and directed by the Professor Rossini Tavares de Lima until 1987, date of his death, is denominated werewolf : haunt and reality (1983) and it is a result of the research also made in Joanópolis, with the main core chosen in the Bragantina region investigated by me. For three years I traveled consecutively from the capital, where I have always lived, in the pursuit of information, urban or rural. That town was founded by my maternal grandfather, Anselmo Caparica, and by his brother in law João Ernesto Figueiredo, my uncle-grandfather, both born in that region and grandsons of Portuguese and Spanish people.
Only now, however, I came to know that my grandfather was suspected
of being a Werewolf . What yet was not been told, was that besides being a werewolf , he was also a Mason and... he liked to go out at night, they say.
A curious fact also happened to a cousin of my mother, resident in the same town: in a stormy night, he took cover under a wool blanket and went outside to the garden of the house, to pick up his cat. People passing by, running under the rain, saw the strange dark form, lowered. The next day the man was seen as a werewolf . The case was told to me by his son.
Funny family episodes like these, give more charm to our experience of research.
This reported adventure, of two talented newcomers, stimulates our belief in the seriousness with which this folklore matter can be taken by the media – seriousness that must exist, because it is the foundation to our cultural identity.
It is very satisfying, to us, to feel that the folklore can be disclosed, without fantasy or prejudice, by we, intellectual young men, engaged in the knowledge of the Brazilian man.

1. The transformation
The police station red phone rings. While his face was lightened by the storm lightnings, Officer Ferreira answered that call. It was a routine call. A drunk father, was threatening to kill his family. It was not the first time that it had occurred in the city. Ferreira and two of his coworkers, Officer Silvio and Itamar went out to solve the case. But what they didn’t knew, however, was that they were going to see something out of the ordinary. A supernatural phenomenon.
When they arrived to the house, they surrounded the house and started analyzing the situation. It was raining. It was not a strong rain, but it was weird. And although it was not a strong rain the lightning didn’t stop.
Before thinking about a strategy to tame the house owner, Ferreira wanted to be sure of what was waiting for them. He decided to take a look through the kitchen window, to know if the man was only drunk or he also had a gun, even if it was a knife or a pocket knife.
He pressed
