About this ebook
In December 1776, the fate of the brand new United States of America is in extreme peril. The British and their Hessian help have seized New York City and are in the process of driving General Washington's war-weary Continental Army out of New Jersey as well.
That's the situation 17-year-old Abigail Carpenter finds herself caught in. Unable to flee Princeton, she instead has to watch her enemies march into town and take it over. When her brother is promptly thrown into prison, she and her sister-in-law are left alone to care for five boarding officers, including an arrogant captain, an unsettling lieutenant, and an attentive sergeant whom she has absolutely no desire to know better.
Housing those hateful men is difficult enough without taking on another unexpected guest: a wounded patriot spy with nowhere else to turn. Yet just like that, she's invited into a dangerous world of espionage that could make or break both her and her fledgling country. With the threat of a hangman's noose encircling her neck, and an unexpectedly complicated friendship on her mind, it's up to Abigail to figure out what's truly important and what she can sacrifice if she has no other choice.
Jeannette DiLouie
Jeannette DiLouie was born a New Jersey girl and will die the same even if she grew up in Pennsylvania, lived in Maryland and is now back in Central Pennsylvania. She’s also a cookie dough-eating, travel-obsessed bookworm, and an editor who loves helping other writers achieve their own dreams. Ethnically half-Italian, Jeannette is tragically addicted to carbohydrates. Also ethnically half-Scottish, she’s counting down the days when she can go visit that lovely land again. And being just under five-foot three, she happily claims her short-girl rights to climb on any shelf or counter she needs to. If you enjoyed these past pages, she would love to see you rate and review them on Amazon and/or Goodreads. And if you have a fiction (or non-fiction) story of your own that you’d really like to write or are already writing, check out www.InnovativeEditing.com, Jeannette’s business page. It’s full of free and paid resources… all devoted to genuine writers and making their publishing goals achievable.
