    Introduction

Oscar lives on his parent’s farm.

One day, he and his dog Fluffy venture too far into the woods and stumble upon the magical place called fairyland.

Here he meets the commission who are a group of female fairies whose objective is to ensure that fairyland is a safe and happy place for all.

Jake, Oscar’s neighbour, is always threatening to beat Oscar up and he seeks help from fairyland.

This sets up a series of events with local professionals to help deal with the bullying issue.

The long swamp is a common recreational venue for the children and one family of the fairies live on an island in the middle of the swamp.

The town has decided to fill in the swamp for development.

This sparks a public out cry.

In the end, a new Federal wetland protection act prevents the swamp from being filled in.

Jake and Oscar make up and are once again friends.

    Chapter One

    Meet Fairyland

In the rolling countryside, the dark silhouette of trees gradually takes light as the sun rises with the glorious colours of the new day.

A shimmering mist hovers over a golden field and a rooster cock-a-doodle-doos.

A horse grazes in a field beside a small stable and a barn. Chickens frantically dash across the yard.

In a distant field, the grass rustles as a cougar runs through.

In the kitchen of the old farm house an old unused wood cook stove sits in the corner adorned with a bouquet of wildflowers in a can.

Ten year old Oscar comes into the kitchen reading a book and looks up at Sally, his eight year old baby sister sitting at the table, eating cold cereal and reading the cartoon on the back of the box.

Busy Mom turns from cooking at the modern stove and smiles at her darling children.

Fluffy the dog sits in the corner watching the action.

Dad enters with basket of eggs, sets it down, kisses Mom, then Sally, and looks at Oscar. Do you want a kiss too?

    Oscar cringes. Yuk. That’s a girl’s thing.

Don’t forget your chore tonight is helping me feed the chickens, his Dad reminds him.

Oscar looks up from the book that he’s absorbed in. But I’m reading a good book

Book will always be there. The chickens will be hungry.

I was born into the wrong family. I should have been born into more bookish type people.

Mom and Dad exchange heartfelt glances and smiles, their mutual love stares at the cute spawn they’ve created. More bookish type people? his Mom asks.

    That’s right.

Well school starts tomorrow so you’ll be bookish then.

"What years is it? Oscar asks.

    2008. Why?

Oh, no reason. Can I play outside? Oscar wonders.

Yes. Be sure to stay in the yard. And take Fluffy with you to chase away any wild animals.

Sally watches Oscar grab his soccer ball.

    Come on Fluffy, Oscar yells.

Fluffy runs after Oscar as he opens the screen door and they both rush out into the yard.

In the yard, fluffy white clouds float across the blue sky. Beautiful big old trees grow between large lush fields of green corn stalks, golden canola and rustic barley.

Oscar kicks the ball a few times.

Fluffy chases after it and brings it back.

They play this a few times until they hear a rustling sound in the woods.

Fluffy jumps through the wooden zigzag fence and disappears into the woods.

Oscar chases after fluffy, crawls through the zigzag fence and end up on the roughed in trail that leads into the thick bush. He hears a noise and walks down the trail towards it and can’t believe what he sees...

...houses in trees and numerous Fairies flying about.

Dumbfounded Oscar stops and stares, his big curious eyes glances around.

    Dixi, a pretty
