About this ebook

'A smart, thrilling, utterly unnerving novel'  GILLIAN FLYNN on Andrew Pyper's The Demonologist

EVERY FAMILY HAS SECRETS.

It is only after their father dies that Aaron, Bridge and Franny learn how wealthy he was. But they must fulfil a request in his will to get any inheritance: spend a month in a cabin, deep in the mountains, with no contact with the outside world.

Despite their concerns, they agree.

BUT SECRETS CAN BE A REAL KILLER.

The isolation soon makes them question what their father was trying to tell them. And why they have memories of the cabin, though none of them have been there before. The only thing they are sure of is that something is calling to them from the darkness of the woods. And before the month is through, they will discover just how deadly secrets can be.

For fans of The Haunting of Hill HouseTwin Peaks and Stephen King, Andrew Pyper returns with this gripping novel about the dark side of family.

*** PRAISE for ANDREW PYPER ***

'Brilliant thriller . . . readers will be invested in the thoughtfully constructed characters. Fans of Josh Malerman's Bird Box will be pleased' Publishers Weekly (* Starred Review)

'One assumes the book was written beneath a full moon . . . Pyper's petrifying imagination comes through in the details. The Homecoming creates a battle between the reader's faith in what they know about their own histories and the leery possibility of treachery emerging out of nowhere . . . Pyper's craftsmanship knows no limit when it comes to making the reader confront their own inescapable fears' Globe and Mail

'Weird, wonderful, audacious . . . Brilliantly constructed and absolutely mesmerizing, this could very well be [Pyper's] best book yetBooklist

'Genuinely terrifying, don't-read-late-at-night stuff. Thrilling, compelling and beautifully written'  SJ Watson, bestselling author of Before I Go to Sleep

'Pyper’s style flips back and forth from gallows humour to Grand Guignol horror…you’ll want to keep all the lights on as you read this oneIndependent on Sunday on Lost Girls

'With impressive skill and confidence…Pyper has created an intricate puzzle, playing with elements of the courtroom drama, the detective story and country Gothic…As a debut novel, Lost Girls is remarkable and compelling. But more than that, it is a novel that goes some way towards reinventing the literary ghost story as a modern-day going concern' The Times on Lost Girls

'Sentence by sentence there’s little to fault: the moody unease of small-town Canada is maintained and a creeping horror revealed' Guardian on Lost Girls

'A best-seller in the author’s native Canada…it’s easy to see why…extremely compelling' Sunday Telegraph on Lost Girls

'This is an excellently written novel, brilliant in its evocation of an atmosphere which, at first mildly sinister, progressively thickens and darkens' Evening Standard on Lost Girls

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. I've never read tie-in novels before, but needed something to read during breaks from studying for finals. Watching TV is my go-to, but it really dulls my focus; nonetheless I wanted something lighthearted, fast, and pretty meat-less to read. This really satisfied that desire. It reads like the TV show, the characters are written similarly to the TV show for the most part, and the plot has the nice straightforward shape of an episode of TV.I didn't like that the crew was split up so quickly, but this book and the next one do a good job of finding a place for everyone. The Torres/Paris stories feel kinda glued on, as they have a very different journey from everyone else. Overall, not a work of stunning literature, but a nice fun romp in a universe I enjoy. I'll definitely be reading more of these.

I found the writing and storyline extremely stale. The only part of this entire series that I liked was B'Elanna's storyline - it's the only part that remained at least somewhat true to character.

Excellent fiction extension of the ST:Voyager series story. I took off half a star because the story ends in a cliffhanger and I must now wait to get part 2 from the library:-) But I enjoyed visiting old friends from the TV series and seeing one account of what could happen when they finally return back to Earth.

A continuation after the end of Star Trek Voyager.

As much as I loved the Star Trek: Voyager tv series, the ending always felt a bit rushed to me. Thankfully, Christie Golden picks up right where Voyager left off, bringing you back with your old friends on the crew. Find out what happens after they return to Earth and pick their lives back up. But don't get too settled. Like any good Star Trek mystery, things start going wrong before they start going right. And that's where Homecoming part 1 sets you up with. Now I can't wait to read part 2!

A great companion book to the series, a must-read for any fan of the series. I can't believe I waited so long to read this after I finished the series!

I was really into it for the first half, maybe 3/4, then it took a direction I was not expecting and happy with. It was still imaginative and good for its genre, but that the book did not fit what I expected from it was what disappointed me. So not really the book's fault, but my expectations.
A good thriller, don't read it when you are out camping or at the cottage!

I have been searching for a word that best describes The Homecoming by Andrew Pyper but I find that it cannot be classified as being any one genre. Psychological thriller, mystery, horror, character study, etc. all describe this novel. The Quinlan siblings, Franny, Bridge and Aaron, are summoned to Belfountain in the Pacific Northwest for the reading of their absentee father's will. The country estate belonged to him and the children are not sure why they must attend there. They are greeted by his attorney who informs them that in order to inherit their father's fortune, they must live at Belfountain for 30'days. And down the rabbit hole the reader goes. When reading an Andrew Pyper book, one is never sure what to expect and The Homecoming does not disappoint. What an imagination! Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada and NetGalley for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Deeply weird, with twists that I did NOT see coming. I would highly recommend this fast read.

In this novel, Pyper is inspired by Frankenstein tales with a mix of gore. Not my favourite combination, I was less enthralled with this book as I've been with his others. While the psychological component is still strong as the characters reconstruct their fate, I found the violence needless - the exploration of the dark recesses of the mind are enough for me. Pyper's writing skills are powerful, which for me saved the story.

The Homecoming by Andrew Pyper due 2-26-2019 Simon and Schuster/Canada 5.0 / 5.0From the start, ´The Homecoming´ made me anxious. Tense. Raymond Quinlan always told several of his children tales of a castle called Belfountain; surrounded by a dense forest with strange creatures roaming the grounds. When Raymond died, he sent a car to take his family to a place ¨necessarily confidential¨ to meet a ¨representative¨ of his estate-Belfountain. As the family members one by one arrive, they are told that they will inherit equal amounts of his estate-about 7 millions each. With one stipulation. They must all live together in Belfountain for 30 days. No internet, cell phones, television, radio, newspapers or books. Belfountain is an eerie and disturbing place, that only gets weirder as its secrets are revealed......like a second group of people arrive at the estate claiming to be the Quinlan family. As we learn more about the legacy of the estate, the history of these families, a sudden twist changes everything and will surprise you......you will become even more anxious at the disturbing and shocking ending.Strange and unsettling, this chills to the bone. Masterfully written, the flow and development make this an excellent and unforgettable and unforgiving horror novel. Thanks to Simon and Schuster/Canada and Netgalley for this e-book ARC for a fair and honest review.#TheHomecoming #NetGalley

Have you ever picked up a book and gotten almost completely through it before you realize that you've read it before? None of the details from whenever you first read it stick out in your mind, but then nothing from the current reading really sticks out, either. That was my experience with this book and its second part, "The Farther Shore".That's not to say that it's a bad pair of books. In fact, it's quite an easy read. No one acts out of character. None of the scenes make you roll your eyes. Unfortunately, that in-the-box theme permeates the book. It's not white bread as much as it is white rice -- there's nothing bad, but nothing memorable. But that's a problem, see, as its supposed to tie up all of the loose ends from the television series finale. It does, mostly, but it does it in a lackluster and predictable way. Maybe that's good, as there won't be anyone to scream "oh, that's just all wrong!", but neither are you going to stand out of your chair and pump your fist at the ending. It's worth a read if you absolutely must know what happened five minutes after the television series ended ... but otherwise, it's skippable. If you do read it, be sure to add it to your LibraryThing catalog, lest you find yourself reading it again someday without realizing it.
