Pretty Eyes Pastor is based on the true story of Chicago clergy sexual abuse adult survivor Tiffany Denmark. Describing the amazing journey to recovery through church politics, betrayal of trust and emotional trauma after a married Baptist Pastor used church communion wine to intoxicate his young victim before committing abuse after she became intrigued with the beautiful color of his pretty eyes. The Baptist Church hierarchy coerced her to remain silent while the statute of limitations for reporting abuse expired. Many years later she was able to reclaim personal power with EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) then testified before The Senate and The House of Representatives compelling changes to the laws on behalf of silent victims.

    Dedication

This book was written in dedication to the adult immigrant survivor who shared her experience of childhood abuse with me. She bore a child fathered by the family pastor when she was only twelve years old but because of a fear of deportation, her family never reported the abuse. By the time she was an adult with sufficient moral and financial support to seek legal recourse the statute of limitations had expired. After hearing this, I was inspired to use my experience of clergy childhood sexual abuse in the Baptist church as a tool to advocate on behalf of silent victims. To the memory of all sexual abuse victims who were not able to overcome their emotional grief and felt that committing suicide was their only route of escape to freedom, may they rest in peace.

    Acknowledgements

I would like to thank Lyn Schollett and Polly Poskin from the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault (ICASA) for giving me the opportunity to share my experience during a legislative process and for all of their kindhearted support.

In addition, I must give a special thank you to Attorney Marc Pearlman for directing me down a path of advocacy that allowed my voice to have significance.

What Is Child (or minor) Sexual Abuse?

At the extreme end of the spectrum, sexual abuse includes sexual intercourse or its deviations. Yet all offences that involve sexually touching a child, as well as non-touching offenses and sexual exploitation, are just as harmful and devastating to a child’s well-being.

    Touching sexual offenses include:

    fondling,

making a child touch an adult’s sexual organs or

penetrating a child’s vagina or anus no matter how slight with a penis or any object that doesn’t have a valid medical purpose.

    Non-touching sexual offenses include:

engaging in indecent exposure or exhibitionism,

    exposing children to pornographic material,

deliberately exposing a child to the act of sexual intercourse or

masturbating in front of a child.

    Sexual exploitation can include:

engaging a child or soliciting a child for the purposes of prostitution or

using a child to film, photograph or model pornography.

The response from the child (minor):

Even a child (a minor) who does not understand they are being harmed at the time of the abuse can exhibit negative emotional and physical effects later in life.

Be aware that it is common for those who experience childhood (a minor) sexual abuse to have a very strong emotional attachment to their abuser and may even have a desire to protect them and not demonstrate any fear.

    Common signs of abuse:

    unexplained injuries,

    changes in behavior,

fear of going home or with a particular person,

    change in sleeping habits,

    changes in performance at school,

inappropriate sexual behavior or play acting out gestures and

please listen and believe until definitively proved otherwise when a child (minor) says they are being touched or are engaging in an inappropriate relationship with an adult.

    CHAPTER ONE

    LURED INTO ABUSE

Sometimes, the beginning of child sex abuse starts with the abuser finding an emotional path to lure the child

The Sunday evening service ended late at night on the first day of a weeklong revival. The guest preacher had delivered a dynamic message with a catchy sermon title named after one of the latest TV commercial jingles. People had been dancing with joy all over the church. The congregation showed their appreciation for hearing a good sermon financially. When the offering plate was passed around, the ushers had to put their hand on top of the money to hold it down because the bills were piled up high.

The guest preacher was a friend
