Lame Bird's Legacy
Rides Well suffers the loss of his wife, rides away and becomes a legend among his people. Otter raises his brother’s orphaned son and foresees tragedy. Lame Bird pursues his youthful vision and discovers his destiny in the midst of war. Isaac Ramsey flees the tragedies of home and finds himself a private in the First Cavalry. General Howard struggles with failure as he chases the Nez Perce across Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana. Sergeant Harry Adkins confronts his conscience when duty and ethics collide. Pronghorn sees opportunity for glory in the travails of his enemy, the Nez Perce. All of these characters' lives become intertwined in the drama and pathos of the 1877 Nez Perce War. In Lame Bird’s Legacy readers will discover truths about all wars and how they influence the lives of ordinary people.
Isaac's Gun
Summoned to the office of her late grandfather’s attorney, Megan Holcomb is presented with a stack of journals and a mysterious locked briefcase. She is informed that her grandparents gave explicit instructions that the briefcase not be opened until Megan had read through the journals in their entirety.
The initial journal entry opens in San Diego, California in 1943, where Ensign Martin Holcomb finds himself in a Naval hospital struggling with physical wounds and mental demons. At the hospital, Martin meets Navy WAVE, Sherrill O’Toole, who takes him home to her parents’ ranch. He ultimately falls in love with both her and her remarkable family, especially her grandfather, who uses his own war memories to help Martin deal with his mental trauma.
Murders near the O’Toole hacienda come to play an important role in the story’s conclusion.
Only when Megan finishes the journal does she understand the significance of the locked briefcase.
Black Wolf's Return
It is 1740 and Black Wolf, an aged warrior, has a dying vision: The wolves will leave the prairie, and so will the Nez Perce Indians. The vision promises his descendants will only return when the wolves do. In the 20th century, his descendant, Emma Wolf Alone follows her baby's father to California where she forms a lifelong friendship with Tessie, and their children, Tom and Seesee, find trials and tribulations of their own. When Tom and his daughter, Sara, search for the black wolf in and around Hell's Canyon, their journey leads to the fruition of Black Wolf's vision, bringing a three hundred year tale of struggle and survival, love and loss, bound by common dreams, to a conclusion.
