- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I have read most of these stories before, but not all of them. So, I finally just sat down and read the whole volume. They are all excellent, of course, but I was particularly fond of "The Adventure of the Copper Beeches," which I found to be the most modern of them all as well as the most exciting. It's hard to go wrong with Holmes.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I think I prefer Sherlock Holmes stories one at a time. This many all at once just made them seem so similar. I can appreciate how Doyle was a pioneer in the mystery field, but the story that I liked the best was the most gothic, "The Adventure of the Copper Beaches".
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is made up of a collection of 12 short stories of the adventures of Sherlock Holmes. It is a cracking good read. Sherlock Holmes is a fascinating and entertaining character. Eccentric and brilliant with Dr Watson an excellent sidekick. I highly recommend these books.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Very good indeed, Watson
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Holmes is ALWAYS worth a read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great little mystery stories, I had fun reading this!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A series of short mysteries narrated by the good Dr Watson. Interesting enough, rarely riveting, sometimes clever.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Assortment of short stories narrated by Dr. Watson with Sherlock Holmes as the central character. These are all very interesting and quick to read. I thoroughly enjoyed them all.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Nett zu lesende Kurzgeschichten aber als Krimi ungeeignet. Was das Buch dann doch noch lesenswert macht ist das Lokalkolorit des auslaufenden 19ten Jahrhunderts.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Sherlock Holmes possesses an uncanny knowledge of almost everything, which allows him to see through every case. My personal favorite of the short stories was A Scandal in Bohemian, featuring the only woman to ever outsmart Sherlock Holmes...while The Adventure of the Speckled Band kept me on the edge of my seat. This is a must read for any mystery fan.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love Sherlock Holms stories. My idea of a good book is one I can read over and over again and not get tired of it. The stories are great mystery/detective stories and great to read before bed.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I enjoyed immensely the first few stories about Holmes however by the end of the book some of the themes were recurring and tedious. Holmes and Watson are a wonderful team and I do enjoy Holmes deductions. I did find some of Watson's preamble a little unnecessary but overall this book was an entertaining read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Loved it, but verrrrrry long.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5LibraryThing predicted (with a very high degree of confidence)that I would not like this book, but it was wrong! I had never read of any Sherlock Holmes stories before, and I found them very enjoyable, if a bit formulaic. I'm sure I will read more Holmes in the future.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I felt as a lover of mysteries that I was doing myself a disservice not going back to the roots and checking out the master sleuth and I really have to say it was a disservice that I'd denied myself for so long. I loved these stories! I can't wait follow more of Holmes deducing!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5These are some fun and sometimes weird little stories that showcase not only Holmes' ability to solve mysteries, but also his relationship with Watson. The only down side that they do tend to be off the beaten track of Holmes actually catching a criminal and mostly around him figuring something out that doesn't result in anyone being brought to justice. Still fun reading though.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fantastic collection of Sherlock Holmes Stories.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Recently I read a Yahoo! article that stated many Brits (I forget the percentage) believe Sherlock Holmes was real. For that alone, Doyle deserves four stars. Extra star for the writing.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5My first collection of Sherlock's shorts and they were super fun. Witty, varied, self-referential, Holmes is a much gentler fellow in these tales than he appears in recent incarnations. He fights for the underdog and cares about the wronged. Some of these stories seem to have been told and retold in every detective series ever imagined but they shine here in their original forms.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It is very exciting for a classic read. A classic Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys but Sherlock Holmes is definitely a more colorful character, smarter and cooler. He reminds me of Dr. House, someone who loves a good puzzle and they also have the same urge of solving a very difficulty case. Modern day policemen needs to emulate Sherlock Holmes. I commend Sir Arthur Conan Doyle for being able to reach out to readers of different ages, different sizes and different nationality.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I think that perhaps, apart from a few Nancy Drews, it was the Sherlock Holmes stories that got me started on a lifetime of mystery reading. I've reread them several times and enjoyed them just as much or more each time.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Short stories that are about non-murder mysteries on the whole and are enjoyable to read if not for the pre-1900 descriptions, but for Sherlock's deductions. An Australian link to one of the stories as well.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A collection of tales from Sherlock Holmes.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5You pretty much know what you're getting with Sherlock Holmes, and these are some pretty fun brainteasers that all blend together after you read several in a row.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This set of short stories is full of interesting puzzles that seem impossible until seen from a different perspective. I quite enjoyed them.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I have read a few other Sherlock Holmes stories in school and was interested in reading more so this seemed like a good compendium. I like that the stories are short and you can pick them up on and off. I think they are most enjoyed once-and-a-while as opposed to straight-through, as they can became tedious and unexciting.I listened to this in audiobook format thanks to LibriVox. The reader was ok but obviously not a professional.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5** spoiler alert ** This book is so intriguing that I couldn't make myself put this book down. it's amazing that Arthur Conan Doyle can create a character so moody, bout so observant and intelligent that can notice everything at any time.I did get quite scared by the five orange pips, and I did find out that Ku klux Klan still exists today! Ugh! It gives me shivers! Beware of some really freakish parts in this book full of mysteries.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sherlock Holmes posses an uncanny knowledge of almost everything, which allows him to see through every case. My personal favorite of the short stories was A Scandal in Bohemian, featuring the only woman to ever outsmart Sherlock Holmes...while The Adventure of the Speckled Band kept me on the edge of my seat. This is a must read for any mystery fan.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent. Sherlock Holmes is fascinating, and Watson's patience never ceases to astound me. The tone and plots were a little unexpected since all movie/TV adaptations of Holmes are very different, but it's an easy pace to fall into and I soon came to love the original Holmes just as much, if not more, as the various TV versions.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really liked this one, it had a number of interesting short stories in highlighting the skills of Sherlock Holmes. I much prefer longer novels to short stories but I did all these stories fully engaging. Onto the Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes now.
