Workshop Objectives
1. Understanding the human impact of change and transition
2. Building and supporting trust during times of change and uncertainty
3. Learning to lead others through emotionally challenging situations
4. Developing authentic leadership capacities to facilitate the process of change
Effective and Ineffective Leadership Activity
Consider either an effective or ineffective leader you’ve known and how he or she behaved during a time of change or transition. In the space below, respond to the following questions:
• Why do you remember this person so positively/negatively?
• How would you describe the person’s leadership behavior?
• What did he or she do/say/project that led to your perception?
• How was the person characterized by others at the time?
Introduction to Leading Through Transitions
• The majority of significant change efforts fail.
• Change initiatives often fail because insufficient time and energy were focused on understanding and offering leadership around the emotional and relational dynamics that underlie the learning, adaptation, and resiliency of the people.
The last four factors in the graphic above are the ones that rising leaders struggle with the most. They are also more
