About this ebook

(Simplified Chinese version) The author was born thanks to his parents being alive and got married. This condition means nothing for most Japanese today, but in his case, Mother experienced A-bomb in Nagasaki, and Father participated in Kamikaze Attack on a Navy bomber, which means that their chances of both being alive was very small. There were so much luck and strong eagerness to live that made them survive; hence the author’s brother and the author were born.
In the early 1960s, the 7-year-old author went to Singapore together with the family and hears about what the Japanese army did in Singapore. The Overseas Chinese people and English people in Singapore had strong hatred towards the Japanese at that time. The author thought that Japan after the war had become a good country and was trying to rebuild the economy that had been destroyed by the war. He was happy to live together with his parents, who were trying to help Japanese economy, although it may mean some hardships for him. When the author went back to Japan, he was rather disappointed that his love towards Japan did not help him adapt back to Japan easily.
When the author grew up and worked for four years, he had a chance to go to the US and rediscovered the big, diverse world he had seen during childhood.
