About this ebook

The book is a finalist in the Eric Hoffer Awards.

To title Callula Xus poems as Juvenile seems an unfair classification, almost prejudicing the author for her age despite the fact her writing possesses a depth and breadth that extends far beyond many writers ten or twenty years her senior.

Despite her age, Xus work has power and strength that is ageless. The authors voice is one that has an artists curiosity, keen insight, and flexible language style and dexterity displayed in an effortless, seamless way.

Callula Xu Poetry - Callula Xu

    Ode to Zephyr

    By Callula Xu

    Memories.

    This blade is living.

    Memories of happy times,

Of rising suns and falling deaths.

Now it is quick no longer.

It is still, without a mighty hand to wield it.

    NOW.

    Tranquil

    It lies upon the earth.

    Quiet.

The brook caresses it, the merry winds laugh Zephyr.

Blade of diamond, flashing through earth.

Head low, the viper strikes, behold the fang of woe.

Weaving in, weaving out, Zephyr strikes, a bloody trail behind him

He falls, hand to his throat, behold, the bloody hero!

He is dying, the millions fall silent, silent with respect The battle is won, but the hero is forgotten, his name lost in the wind…

Proud he was, deft he was, his blade lightning quick—But the hand of fate toyed with him, batted him aside…

The hero who brought hope, his blade lives on…

Zephyr the bloody, Zephyr the great…

    The end to the beginning

    By Callula Xu

    The rain falls.

    The sky
