About this ebook
“The growth of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in South Africa has been characterised by events of historical significance. These have, however, not been without challenges. The unfortunate government policy of apartheid has had a negative impact on the church and its mission. Sadly, the demise of apartheid did not immediately result in the amelioration of race relations. These testing times have in some instances misdirected and sapped the energy of the church. Needless to say, this has stifled the growth of the church over the years. Failure to keep the situation in check may also result in stagnation, and ultimately retrogression. Maintaining the same modus operandi would be imprudent because the situation calls for new approaches, fresh strategies, visionary leadership and the ability to identify opportunities to spread the gospel. To this end, the book The Reluctant Pulpit offers a critique of past practices, biases and cultures. It is an incisive interrogation of socio-political impediments to the growth of the gospel commission embraced by Adventists. It is a blueprint for soul winning, a repository for believers who have a burden for perishing souls and positive change for the good of Adventism and its posterity. This book is a masterfully penned piece of literature-interspersed with riveting and fascinating historical anecdotes.” – Dr Mafu S Rakometsi
