About this ebook

This book contains many things for many people. Also there is a number of practical remedies from the medical files of Edgar Cayce, The Great American Prophet and Psychic. His predictions about the coming major earthquakes that will affect greatly the cities of San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Japan, The Mediterranean and other parts of the world are most revealing. The reader will find quotes, aphorisms, maxims and apophthegmata from the most advanced minds of the world. This book is not a fiction and it can not be read as fiction. It is not a biographical, historical, narrative, a childrens book, or religious. Within it, there is wisdom, knowledge, and information on a variety of subjects, rarely found in a single book.

"Thank your inclusion of Edgar Cayce to such an honorable compilation of thinking minds. I am sure wherever you intend to promote your manuscripts, it will be received in the spirit you have intended with common binding thread of a greater power driving all forces to a grand appreciation of being. Much appreciation for your dedication to compiling this work of philosophical and spiritual ideas from the minds of extra-ordinary men."

    PROLOGUE

Soon after I started collecting the philosophical and spiritual ideas for this book, I decided that it should be considered a quote book, a compiler.

My plan was to put all these ideas in alphabetical or quick reference order, so that when the reader wanted to acquire some knowledge on any subject, such knowledge should be easily available to him/her.

I was aiming to impart as much knowledge to the reader as possible and to help him/her as I was helped by others.

My intuition was telling me that this book of light, most of which was possible through higher sources, had to be made available to every reader who was interested in it.

During these past few years, I have felt like a receiving station, collecting knowledge from different books and spiritual sources. At the same time I felt compelled to transmit this knowledge to those who were ready to accept it. I, personally, make no claim to these ideas, except for my attempt to compile and impart them to others.

I have always considered myself a channel of these ideas, but not the originator of them.

If this book can help empower others in any way, then this is worth my effort.

    SELECTED IDEAS:

And now, at last, you are holding in your hands a true masterpiece. Throughout its pages you will drink amazing amounts and superb quality of wisdom; you will learn what is good for your body, too! Yes. Only in this book you will find everlasting thoughts for your soul and healthy ideas for your material body, which will give you peace of mind and down to earth happiness by remembering once more who you really are.

And of course you are, as human, what you absorb with your mind, and as a man or a woman, what you digest with your body. You are so blessed to not only have come across this magnificent achievement and pride of all human minds who have managed to visit our planet earth and have left behind a living breath of themselves, but also for being given the opportunity to learn about material elements in order to separate them between friendly and unfriendly ones.

Thus, out of this world, true statements and intelligent approaches to a human life (your life), will have a healthy effect upon your whole self, making you proud of being born a human being, indeed. And all you have to do to live a good and prosperous life is to study the beautiful and wise combination of facts of spirituality and earthly life in this book.

    Dear Mr. Hasapis,

Thank you for sharing your book with me. It is interesting to see how the sources quoted all (generally) come to the same points of honor, learning, due diligence, social and political responsibility and self-examination as the foundation for a life worth living; as Socrates says.

By compiling your book from these multiple and diverse sources, you demonstrate how, through the ages, thinking men have all spoken to these precepts to order their own lives and societies in their times. You, my friend, are doing the same in your time with your book, Selected Ideas.

As I read through the book I came to understand you better and began to see that you are part philosopher, part oracle, party mystic and a man concerned with the human condition and with the spirit of truth and faith in a world that is often barbarous.

    Again, thank you.

    Mr. Hasapis:

Your project appears to have required a great deal of exhaustive work. I hope this volume finds the appreciative audience it was intended to reach.

    APOPHTHEGMATA (SAYINGS)

    By: Takis S. Hasapis

    COOPERATION

In competition only one wins at the expense of others.

In cooperation all win at the expense of none.

    CULTURE

Good cultures are not created instantly. It takes a few thousand years for them to develop.

    DUALITY

(Everything and nothing.) In the physical world, everything is temporary, perishable. In the spiritual world, everything is permanent, eternal, and there are no pairs of opposites. Therefore, everything and nothing are one. In the long run, nothing really matters in and of itself. This is one of the spiritual dichotomies.

    —T.H.

    EMOTION

There are emotional and unemotional people. The former are alive to their fingertips. The latter are only partially alive.

    ENTHUSIASM

Enthusiasm is a mental quality possessed by those who know that they are inspired by God from within.

    FAILURE

Never think of failure and you will be a great success.

    GRIEVING

When you grieve for others, you also grieve for yourself. Others are simply the excuse that triggers your own grieving.

    HEART

If I were to choose between a hypertrophic mind and a gentle heart, I would choose the latter—because the mind can do wrong, the heart never.

    JOY

Joy is the spirit language telling you that you are on the right path.

    LEARNING

We think we learn something new, when in reality we are merely reminded of it, since our souls already know everything.

    LIFE

Life is travel in consciousness that changes from moment to moment.

    MIND

You can change the state of your mind by changing your attitude or the thoughts that hit the screen of your mind.

    PEACE OF MIND

To find peace of mind you have to substitute hate with love, resentment with forgiveness, fear with faith and trust, pitilessness with compassion, intolerance with tolerance, and competition with cooperation.

    RESENTMENT

This is a negative emotion that is trying to tell you that you have to forgive and forget.

    SEARCH

When you stop searching, you can be sure you have found the answer.

    SUFFERING

Suffering is the great teacher who is trying to bring you closer to God.

    TERRA POETICA

It is very difficult to become a citizen in Terra Poetica unless you are a great poet. Personally, I’ll be lucky if I get my green card in the land of poetry.

    TIME

Time (the eternal now) is divided into the past, present and future.

    WAR

One good way to eliminate war is to eliminate all military academies and replace them with peace academies.

    WORRY

Don’t worry about a thing, because sooner or later you are bound to forget it.

To my children, Vana and Stefan

    Knowledge not shared is sin.

    Edgar Cayce

    SELECTED IDEAS

    ACTION

    •   Action is the physical link to having what you want.

    •   Action is caused by desire.

    •   Self-less action leads to purity of mind.

    •   Self-knowledge is attained through renunciation of action.

    —Bhagavad Gita

    •   When an entity takes an action, that action has the influential power of one. When two entities take an action, that action has the power of four. When four entities take an action, the action has the power of sixteen, and thus the powers continue to increase.

    —C.A.

    •   Action is preceded by motion, thought, desire, motivation, and necessity.

    —T.H.

    ADAM

    •   Represents the conscious mind, reason, the will. It is the builder, the programmer. The conscious mind searches, probes, wills and influences. Its energies are projective.

    AGING

    •   Aging is often a matter of the spirit. It exists in imagination before it exists in the body.

    —Vincent Peale

    AHISMA

    •   The avoidance of harm to any living creature in thought or deed.

    —Ghandi

    AFFIRMATIONS

    •   Divine God, I care not what I may permanently possess, but give me the power to acquire, at will, whatever I may daily need.

    •   Thine will in me, not my will… but thine be done in me and through me.

    •   He leads me beside the still waters, he restores my soul.

    —PSALMS, 23

    •   I will conquer pride by humility, wrath by love, excitement by calmness, selfishness by unselfishness, evil by good, ignorance by knowledge and restlessness by the ineffable peace acquired in stillness of complete silence.

    •   I will be all things to all peoples, that I may gain the more. Not in the sense of building in self as one that would live upon the efforts of another, but that being all things, I may be understood, and may understand the viewpoint, the concept, the impelling force, the reflective angle in which another sees his God.

    •   Let the light of love of the Christ be my guide. My brother, my friend, my neighbor, even my enemies are the children of God, my brethren, my loved ones. Let me, then, see that I do not cause one of these to err, nor put a stumbling block in the way of any.

Father, God! In that thou has given to me the Christ consciousness, may I, in my daily walks before my fellow man, manifest the spirit of the Christ; in humbleness, in love,
