    "Teaching is the hardest work

I have ever done, and it

    remains the hardest work

    I have ever done

    to date"

    Coach John Wooden

The thing I loved the most, and still love the most about teaching, is that you can connect with an individual or a group and see that individual or group exceed their limits

    Mike Krzyzewski

    Introduction

The path to a career in teaching has remained basically the same for the past 50 years. Individuals aspiring to teach are expected to earn a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with a concentration in a main subject area. In their senior year of college, they are required to student teach for approximately 10 weeks and pass a State or National teaching exam. In the past, the skills necessary to secure a teaching position were expected to be inherent in the educational process provided by colleges and universities. Today the educational requirements remain virtually the same, but the skills, knowledge and experience expected of qualified candidates have changed dramatically.

The information complied in Teaching Today: Becoming the Candidate of Choice is intended to outline the changes that have taken place in the field of education and provide teaching candidates with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to truly become the Candidate of Choice.
