About this ebook

The Russian Coup and the Girl addresses the lives of the Russian people during the change from Communism to democracy. Though technically a democratic government prevails in the country, it is not like any other version of democracy. Drama, adventure, and safety are the main concerns of the Russian people; their lives are filled with tragedy and a triumph at the same time.

    About the Author

    Prologue

It was a warm summer day in Russia, and the birch trees in the forest were swaying and sparkling in the wind. The daffodils were in full blossom. The tanks were rolling, and the snipers were shooting. It was a coup.

I did not want to be inside the hotel, the Radisson-Slavyanskaya, because I was afraid. There were snipers on the roof of the hotel, which was just two blocks away from the White House. Outside, foreigners were watching, oblivious to the danger. They were just spectators looking for a show.

I ran two blocks from the hotel to stand underneath a bridge made of stone, with an arch underneath for people to walk through. It was a very old bridge, dating from before the revolution. There I saw a river across from the White House.

Under the bridge, I was alone but could see everything. Then four men also went under the bridge.
