INTRODUCTION
We are very proud of our grandparents, parents and extended family. They should all definitely have a place in history! This volume is our attempt to record all of the available information, and a collection of photographs, about the family. Information is largely drawn from family records including an extensive collection of albums prepared by our mother, Grace, over the years. We also had full access to records collected by siblings of both our parents. The editors also had personal collections of information that have contributed to this summary.
Information on Lassey and Clark name origins and history comes in part from the Ancestry.com, My Heritage.com, and the Personal Ancestry File (Mormon) websites, with data drawn from census records and other reputable sources.
The information on contemporary family was provided directly by family members, who also supplied some of the photographs. We are quite aware that by the time this is published some of the information will already be out-of-date, as the family continues to expand, jobs change, and events transpire to alter the status of many of us. This volume is thus a benchmark
rather than a final statement of family history.
CHAPTER I
ORIGINS OF THE LASSEY FAMILY
In the year 2000, census records indicate that there were 61 Lassey family households in the United States, with the largest numbers residing in Washington (8), Florida (7), California (6), Kansas (6), and Massachusetts (6). There were at least four Lassey households in North Dakota at that time—down from at least six in 1950, all of whom were descendents of Constant and Emalie Lassey.
CONSTANT AND EMALIE LASSEY
Most people with the name Lassey who immigrated to the United States between 1840 and 1947 came from the United Kingdom. Constant and Emilie Lassey were an exception, when they moved permanently from Belgium in 1900. In fact, the 1920 Census listed only two Lasseys born in Belgium—which would have had to be Constant and Emilie. A few other Lasseys came from other locations in continental Europe. The record thus suggests that Lassey is largely a British name, probably adopted
