Chapter 1
Today is the day I’ll face my greatest fears, and I will say I am not afraid,
said Edwina Abrams, while sipping her coffee. She is working on a project. This project is something Edwina has desired most of her life. Ever since Edwina was a young child, she has been fascinated by the paranormal. On her sixth birthday, her godmother gave her a special gift. It was a charm for her bracelet. This charm was very unique. It was silver, shaped like a triangle; it had three diamonds one on top and two side by side. In the middle were two gold rings interloped together. How strange,
she thought. Her godmother explained that the charm was for protection. She kept this special charm until she was about sixteen when her mom and stepfather decided to move to New Jersey. Edwina missed her friend Sasha along with her school and other friends back in California. She gave Sasha her charm before leaving. Sasha had always loved that charm and Edwina foolishly gave it to her. She regretted that decision.
Once settled into their new home in New Jersey, Edwina started having problems. They almost destroyed her. Strange noises would go on in the house especially when she was alone. How she wished she hadn’t given away her special charm. At night in her room she would see flashes of shadows in the dark. She would close her bedroom door, and later awake to find it open. She convinced herself that it was her mom or stepfather, but twice when her parents vacationed over the weekend the door was mysteriously opened and there was no one home but her. No one believed her when she would tell them about these strange phenomenons. She told her mom and stepfather about the shadows and the bedroom door. She even told them about how her things would be missing for days and then suddenly reappear. No one believed her. She felt completely alone.
The most frightening of all phenomenons occurring in the house surprisingly involved fruit. Edwina’s mom had a beautiful lead crystal fruit bowl she kept in the den. she would fill her crystal fruit bowl every week with fresh fruit. Edwina loved the apples. Whenever she tried to eat one however, they would mysteriously disappear from the bowl. What happened to all the apples?
Edwina would ask her mom angrily. You ate them all,
her mom would always answer. No I did not.
She would argue. Well it wasn’t me or your dad, so who else is left?
Her mother scolded. It wasn’t me.
She demanded but her mother never believed her.
When Dr. Edwina Abrams became a woman, she realized that she would never truly be rid of her anxieties until she faced her worst fear, ghosts. She wanted to find a way to communicate with ghosts. She believed that ghosts or spirits moved at a different celerity than physical people, and that the rate of speed by which they traveled caused them to appear invisible. She believed that her phantasm during her teen years used this speed.
Here is how Dr. Abrams believed these phantasms worked. She believed that their speed was maybe ten times faster than the speed of light. Because of their speed they could do many things without being seen. Things like opening and shutting doors would be done so quickly you wouldn’t notice until after the deed was done. Taking objects from one place to another would be done so quickly that the human eye wouldn’t notice until the object was completely moved. In fact these spirits could easily move back and forth among us all day long and never be seen unless doing so purposely.
Dr. Abrams believed that she could create a camera that could help her see and communicate with ghosts. For years she worked on this project. She spoke to many different theorists. She read books on lasers. She read books on lenses. She decided that her camera would have a pump laser, one that could project a beam powerful enough that it would penetrate through different celerities and focus on one of these phantasms, adjusting itself until picture perfect focus was obtained.
Chapter 2
After three years of hard work, Dr. Abrams had done it. The most exquisite man made creation she had ever laid eyes upon. Now that her project was done she would have to test it. To do this she would need a team of other scientist and technicians with equal interest in the preternatural. She would also need funding, lots of it, since she had exhausted most of her previous funding on her camera. She went on the Internet to locate some of her old friends and investors. Dr. Morris Young gave
