PREFACE
114831_text.pdfThe Dawn of The Innocent
was not written by a frustrated author, or for profit or personal gain. On the contrary, it was written by someone with no previous writing experience, and one for whom writing is extremely difficult. Perhaps this is why some of my closest friends believe that genuine inspiration was at work here.
Rather, it is a result of some deeply held convictions, the nerves of which were touched (and triggered) by the current political campaigns. Many politicians are not committed to an ideal, but are merely pandering for votes. They seem afraid or reluctant to take a firm position on major issues, even if they have strong personal views. Someone with the opposite view, that articulates it well, may cost them numbers in the polls.
It is my hope that the reader will discern the various themes as they evolve in the book and come to the eventual realization of what a slippery slope we’re on:
A critical look at our political campaigns, the expediency and lengths to which candidates will go to assure votes and popular stances.
The rationalization that takes place so that discomfort
and conscience are quieted.
The bending of laws for the common good
.
A broad view of morality so that very few actions are considered really bad
.
Any means to an end is acceptable.
The fact that DeTocqueville’s view of our greatness as a country is ebbing away as morality weakens.
A call to faith and to a firm conviction regarding that faith.
Demanding accountability of our ministers of faith.
This book is a stark look at Judgment regarding each of us, and how we view the unborn.
The central concept of Dawn
is meant to shock, surprise, dismay, sadden, confront, awaken, persuade, anger, forgive and redeem those who see their past actions mirrored here. Deliverance
is available to all of us if only the thought and the call to morality dawns
on us.

CHAPTER 1
114831_text.pdfTHE REFLECTION
John Bracken stands looking out a window of his suite on the top floor of the Bethesda Marriott. It is one day before his Inauguration, and in just a few hours his two key companions over the past 12 months will be leaving, their work done. His eyes are welling up, because even though God sent His very best, and his knowledge and gifts were greatly expanded, he just didn’t want to let go. The snow covered parking lot added to the sadness, peaceful, white, and so still the eye could just drink it in. It was as though the world had frozen at that moment. How can I let go and go on? The thought rolled over and over in his head. The sadness turned to sobs, and a hand of a friend of a very short time touched his shoulder.
John, it’s time to get hold of yourself. In less than 24 hours you will become the 48th President of this troubled but still great republic. Your work has been laid out for you. You’ve been given great graces, and an army of powerful aides. You’ll do just fine, and remember you’re only a prayer away from us
.
John began to reflect on how he had gotten to this point of his life. It was more than remarkable.
It was late January of 2012 when this story really began. John Bracken was a very ordinary man. He would remind you of someone that would never be noticed in a room full of people. He lived a plain life with his family, which at this point consisted of a caring wife, Mary, and two sons and a daughter who were all on their own. The family dog was the biggest responsibility he had at this point. He spent his work life with ledgers and spread sheets. His life was behind the scenes. Most was black or white. There was little gray to this man in his mid fifties, except what covered his head.
John was a voracious news junkie, and in every room of his home, and his office as well, the news was constantly on. CNN, CNBC, MSNBC and FOX News played all day. Mary just couldn’t understand why he had such an interest, especially when he never expressed anything but disgust about what he was watching. He would always say, Why do they do what they do? I’ll be praying long today!
Oh yes, John would spend hours of each day in prayer with the Lord. This would help him to process and transform his thoughts more positively. Scripture was his greatest resource, and that would draw him into deep thought. His favorite role models—next to Jesus, were Samuel of the Old Testament and Paul of the New Testament. He could always find answers there, especially Paul’s letters. He thought, Wouldn’t it be great if Paul would write those letters to the Washingtonians. Now that would shake them up!
OK, it all started (as I said) late in January 2012, just after one of the national presidential debates. The two candidates had been boasting how they were Pro Choice, and how they always affirmed a woman’s right to choose. The anger welled up, and John started ranting. Mary came running, What’s wrong?
she said. "I can’t stand this, here are two what I would call intelligent men being so ignorant. They were defending a woman’s right to choose. Choose what? Murder? Plain and simple we have
sunk to the depths. God has got to stop this! This has gone on way too long. I’m sorry, this is making me sick. I need to go pray."
As always John would go into his quiet office, light a candle and do his daily meditations and reading. He normally would sit and do this. This time he fell to his knees and said, "OK Jesus what is it we need to do? This is just a mess. We have taken ALL the SEVEN DEADLY SINS and turned them into the acceptable in this country. Don’t be Christian! Don’t pray! Don’t show outward signs of being a follower of You, they will persecute you in the press, drag your name through the mud, and make you wish you weren’t born. Funny, that brings me back to my point. Jesus, how do we get the country back to you? I look back at all the great countries and empires and they all seem to go the same way. Government always becomes bigger, and you my God become smaller. Your warning to Samuel was the lesson. When we stop holding you up, we bring ourselves down. Lord, on my knees I pray, Don’t let this happen! We can change, I know it. Your will be done.
With this a peace came over John, a peace he had never experienced. His body became very still and his mind captured the vision of the risen Lord. How powerful, and how calming, it was as if all worries had gone away. John keep your eyes on the risen Lord. Soon John retired and fell into a very deep sleep.
At 6 A.M. the next morning the alarm went off as usual and John got up more refreshed then he had been in years. He couldn’t help thinking about the image of the night before. His anger was being turned into peace. As he walked down the hall the smell of the early morning air filled him. This was his favorite time of the day, John’s time to reflect and pray without any interruptions. The day was just beginning.
As John walked to his normal Morning Prayer room, the breakfast nook, he noticed two figures already there, and a candle already burning. A sight such as this should have caused fear, instead it inspired peace. As John walked closer to see who was there, he heard the words: "Peace be with you God’s faithful servant, your
