Captain Dullus was standing in the crew lounge a small area where they had meals and socialized. He was holding on to a plastic bag. I want it all people.
Cards, dice, and other gambling items were going into the bag. He watched them on the monitor in his cabin and it took awhile for him to figure what they were doing. The games were ancient, and all the other crew members used the VR devices. He expected it among the crew members. There was a considerable amount of down time since the Endurance was so automated it could operate with just four people on duty. They were gambling with the scientists and colonists, and he wanted the crew to maintain a professional distance with them and since the ship was close to their destination, he didn’t want any distractions. He gave a direct order for it to stop a week ago but now the situation needed his involvement.
Captain to the bridge,
came over the ship wide intercom.
He ignored it probably just another complaint from the colonists. Cabin temperature and food in the cafeteria were the most common problems. Even though little could be done they weren’t satisfied until he appeased them.
The data pad on his wrist started to flash red, the emergency signal. He tapped it, What is it.
There is an object. It has changed course twice and is coming straight at us,
responded the XO on the bridge.
On my way.
He turned around and said, Make a hole.
In the crew quarters' bunks, three high, lined both sides of the wall. The crew members turned and faced their bunks making a lane for him to get through. He got to the end, there was a bunk that was unmade.
Whose bunk is this?
Christianson,
one of the crew responded.
You tell him if this bunk isn’t squared away the next time I come down here, he is on report.
Yes, sir,
several crew members responded. He moved quickly to the lift and was at the lowest level. There were four decks on the Endurance.
When he got to the bridge, there was an object on the main viewing screen. It was dark like a black box just sitting in space.
Is that a ship?
Dullus asked the XO Lieutenant Briggs.
Don’t know sir. I made two slight course corrections, and it followed us.
Dullus sat down in at his command station. There were three monitors where he could bring up all the cameras outside and inside the ship or bring
