About this ebook

Even though she’s a couples therapist, Sabine is struggling to understand her romantic decisions. Why would anyone ditch a fantastic guy like her surgeon-boyfriend Thomas, after just one month of living with him? She has no good reason. But plenty of strong feelings. Worse still, she’s signing up with the 1Night Stand agency, which simply isn’t like her. She’s telling herself it’s just because she can—a way to mark a new beginning.

Sabine’s the anonymous lady in white Simon’s been told to meet at the Cape Point Castillo Resort at the tip of South Africa. Right alongside the ocean, where he nearly died. Simon’s amused Madame Eve hooked him up with a therapist. Because he sure has a lot to talk about. One look at gorgeous Sabine, and talking’s the last thing on his mind. He needs her to know him, so he comes up with a game plan.

In Sabine’s eyes he’s tall, dark and handsome and he’ll do nicely, but alarm bells start ringing when he doesn’t behave like your average one night stand date. Is she in danger? Can she trust this man in a raincoat, who entices her onto a windswept beach at night, or should she run a mile? Because something sinister’s going on. He’s injured. He knows her real name. And he didn’t come to the 1Night Stand service in the usual way. Right now he’s a survivor with one helluva story, and she’s a woman with a heap of unanswered questions.

Yet they’ve been brought together for a reason. And been told to stay for breakfast. What does Madame Eve know that they don’t?

    Dear readers!

I have the privilege of living in the place where Sabine and Simon met. And more than one element in their story has been a part of mine. This book was born out of a strong instinct I had to change my life, at a time when everyone around me expressed doubt and trepidation at my choices. I was afraid too, but for once I felt certain—sad things were changing, but clear they had to. It can be hard to explain yourself. It’s difficult to let go of the approval of others. Trust your instincts. They’ll keep you alive.

And if you can find a partner in crime, who understands you at heart, so much the better.

I hope you enjoy your 1Night Stand. I specialize in hot, heady romance with situations that challenge my characters to their core. If you’d like to hear more about my steamy stories, and go on further personal journeys with me and my heroines, please do write to me!

My books are set all over the world and have been described as surprisingly deep for works that are so light! At their heart you’ll always find love, because as the Beatles said, love is the answer, and you know that for sure.

Which means we’re walking in paradise.

    Dedication

I dedicate this book to myself, for knowing what I want. If not always why.

    Prologue

    Dear Madame Eve,

This may be the strangest request you’ve ever had. I was a happily-in-love woman who ended her relationship. Now I’m seeking a one-night stand. An idea I’ve been toying with for some time now. Don’t hate me.

I lived with a great guy, Thomas. He was devoted to me. I didn’t want to break up. I didn’t want to move out. I certainly didn’t want an affair. We were on the verge of getting engaged, for God’s sake!

Our sex life had always been good. I was satisfied.

I didn’t want someone else. I didn’t want something different. I wasn’t even particularly curious.

It was just…like I couldn’t believe this was it, you know?

I would never fall in love again.

It was the end of the beginning.

And also, the beginning of the end. They say fairy tales end in marriage because what comes next is not worth writing about.

I couldn’t talk to Thomas about it.

Instead, I called it quits. I think I broke his heart.

And now I’m following mine. Maybe if I have one last chance at tasting the unfamiliar, I’ll be able to settle down forever at some point in the future.

    Maybe even with Thomas?

    Sabine

    Chapter One

I opened my eyes in my new apartment in leafy Higgovale and blinked in the dappled morning light. It reminded me Thomas always used to leave his curtains open, and how it had irked me. The light in his place was so much more savage. He liked
