All the King's Horses: The Equestrian Life of Elvis Presley
By Kimberly Gatto and Victoria Racimo
()
About this ebook
Elvis's legendary love of horses drove him to find the Golden Palomino who would become his beloved companion Rising Sun, and to fill Graceland's stables and Circle G Ranch with horses for family and friends to ride.
In the first-ever book dedicated to Elvis's equestrian side, horse lovers Kimberly Gatto and Victoria Racimo share rare stories, interviews, and photographs that shed light on the beautiful, quiet life the King lived when he was with his horses.

PRAISE FOR
ALL THE KING’S HORSES
A wonderful account of how Elvis Presley, living under the mega wattage of his super stardom, found his ultimate solace and deepest center in the company of his horses. A testament to the healing power of these majestic, noble animals. His relationship with Rising Sun, his beloved Palomino, reads like a love affair. A marvelous book!
—CHRISTINE BARANSKI, multiple Tony and Emmy Award winning actress, and star of the CBS All Access series, The Good Fight
"After reading All the King’s Horses, I could almost imagine standing next to Elvis and gazing into his horse’s eyes. This well-written book takes you into a little known world where Elvis felt the most at ease; with his equine friends. You can feel Elvis’s devotion to his horses. Elvis and horses. What could be any better?"
—JEANNE MARIE MIRABITO, founder and president, Our Mims Retirement Haven, Paris, KY
Just when you thought you knew everything about Elvis, Victoria Racimo and Kim Gatto unveil one of the most important relationships of his life. Surrounded by hangers-on and sycophants along with adoring fans, Elvis longed for a few minutes of quiet . . . with a creature who didn’t want anything but love. None of the hundreds of biographies came close to discovering how much his equine friends meant to the King. Until now.
—MICHAEL BLOWEN, founder and president, Old Friends, Georgetown, KY
"This meticulously researched book is a must read for people who love horses and love Elvis. Riding was clearly a way for The King to get away from the pressures of fame and All the King’s Horses shows a little-known side of Elvis and how his love for his horses grounded and energized his life."
—JANE GOLDENRING, film and television producer, President of Goldenring Productions, and former Sr. VP of Production at Disney
"In their fascinating and revealing new book All the King’s Horses: The Equestrian Life of Elvis Presley, Victoria Racimo and Kimberly Gatto begin with the old adage, ‘There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.’ No quote is more appropriate in describing the profound, almost spiritual effect horses had on a man who was worshiped by millions of adoring fans all over the world who only knew the outside of Elvis Presley. In this beautifully told and meticulously researched adventure of discovery, Racimo and Gatto dig deep into that side of Elvis no one ever saw and show you the inside of a man."
—STEVE HASKIN, award-winning Hall of Fame American horse racing journalist and author
Elvis’s love of horses is palpable in this wonderful new book. They touched his soul and became his passion! He finally found peace and solace when he was around them, often riding alone for hours, giving him a much-needed escape. I loved learning about this soft and gentle side of the King. A really fun and fast read. Great job, Victoria and Kimberly. Thanks for giving us this story. A must read for Elvis fans!
—ROBIN HUTTON, author of the New York Times bestseller, Sgt. Reckless: America’s War Horse
"What always interests me is highlighted by this book: human relationships/friendships with animals. The need for animals in our lives is the need for a re-democratization of us as fellow sufferers and fellow travellers through creation. Loss of that democracy is also paradoxically a loss of humanity. With a celebrity like Elvis, the need to rediscover or reboot his humility must have been both powerful and unattainable with other human beings. He was just too big. The story of Elvis seeking his democracy among his equine friends is very [heart]warming in Racimo and Gatto’s book, All the King’s Horses."
—BERNARD POMERANCE, author and Tony Award-winning playwright of The Elephant Man
Reading about the comforting relationships Elvis had with his horses, I learned there was a very different side to the superstar. How lovely to know that Elvis the man, the husband, the father, the friend—found a special place to go with his equine friends when everything else was in the crazy zone. This book gave me insight into his overwhelming kindness, generosity, and spirit.
—SHARON A. CARR, Broadway producer, Pippin, Trip to Bountiful, Cinderella
"If you love Elvis, if you love horses, (and I do love Elvis and I do love horses), then you won’t be able to put down All the King’s Horses. I finally found something that Elvis and I have in common!"
—MIKEY CAMERON, ESPN Radio Lex talk show host, and thoroughbred racehorse trainer/breeder

FOREWORD
BY LARRY GELLER
Was Elvis Presley truly happy?
We were riding our horses at Elvis’s Circle G Ranch on a warm summer afternoon in 1967, when Elvis brought his horse Rising Sun to a quick halt. He looked across the rolling green hills. Larry, this ranch is my dream. I’ve been looking for something like this for a long time. You know how much I love singing and making records, and bein’ in movies.
He had an almost wistful, faraway look in his eyes. But out here, riding our horses the way we are and livin’ on the ranch close to Mother Nature—that’s where it’s at for me. I can’t stand staying out in Hollyweird too long. It’s so easy to lose yourself out there, and this place brings me back to the basics. I’m talkin’ about hanging on to your soul.
Being true to oneself, staying in touch with the basics, was a meaningful theme like a golden thread that ran throughout Elvis’s life. Those basics, what meant the most to him, were the pure joy of singing, the happiness he brought to his fans and, most of all, his little daughter Lisa Marie. Often, he would quote something his beloved mother drilled into him. Never forget where you came from, and don’t pretend to be something you’re not.
This became a central truth that he struggled to live up to his entire life. Thrust onto the world stage, rising from utter poverty to the heights of luxury and fame, Elvis was always humble and grateful for the blessings he had been given.
I thought I knew just about everything there was to know about Elvis Presley. I had worked for him, travelled with him, even sometimes lived at Graceland, and we were close personal friends. I even lived at the Circle G Ranch when he was there, where I witnessed first-hand his love and respect for horses. Yet, throughout the pages of this interesting, well-researched, and insightful book, I often found myself smiling or even laughing at something that was fresh and new to me. Whether you’ve been a fan your whole life, or just discovered the magic of Elvis, this book is a page-turner!
Elvis’s life and career are legendary; he’s been profiled and written about in many hundreds of books, more than any other entertainer or cultural icon in history. I am honored to have been asked by Kimberly Gatto and Victoria Racimo
