    Part One: The Wedding Weekend

    Chapter One: Gabriel & Marius

Gabriel grinned at the bright yellow socks sitting on the pillow, a pair for him and one for Marius. These get-togethers at Max’s place were becoming more commonplace. After Christmas, they came together for Spring break, traveling to Adrian’s farm, where much to his surprise there were Calvary men who had also come through time. He picked up the socks, noticing the softness and fine weave. Maybe every couple had their own color. He moved the socks onto the dresser, thinking that if Max had a plan, he’d certainly let them know during the first supper tonight.

Marriage. A wedding. His stomach fluttered, though not in a bad way. It’d taken some research on Max’s part, and Gabriel suspected a few surprises. He’d asked each gladiator to bring his sword, and Gabriel figured since it had brought each of the couples together that it’d play a role in the ceremony somehow.

A ceremony. He glanced at Marius, hanging their garment bags with their suits in the closet. His gaze lingered on the gladiator’s tight ass and broad shoulders. He’d looked fine—damn fine—in the suit. So much so it nearly took his breath away. He hadn’t seen his lover so dressed up before; he hoped he’d get the opportunity to see it again. Maybe on their anniversary.

The flutters faded just enough so he could focus on the fact that this weekend would be one of joyous merriment for all of the couples. A multiple wedding with graven invitations and from the spicy hint of bay as he entered, real laurel wreaths. His smile widened. He’d wanted this—both of them had wanted this—for so long.

He crossed the room to Marius and stopped beside him, then wrapped his arms around the gladiator’s waist. I love you, he murmured into the man’s neck. And I can’t believe that this weekend we’ll be getting married.

Me neither. Marius’ voice rumbled with emotion from his chest. He turned and let his hands slide down Gabriel’s back to cup his ass.

    Gabriel shivered.

A gladiator has nothing. No home. No family. No partner. He lowered his head to find Gabriel’s face already upturned toward his. When Janus brought me here… His voice grew thick with emotion. It truly is the work of the gods. He kissed Gabriel, the gentle touch of his lips quickly turning into something more. Grabbing Gabriel’s ass, he pulled him closer. A caress of his tongue across Gabriel’s lower lips had him opening his mouth as the kiss deepened.

When he pulled away, they both were breathing heavily. The ridge of Marius’ erection pressed against him, and he wanted nothing more than to tumble his gladiator to the bed and make love to him. Not yet. They had to finish putting away their luggage, and then the guys wanted to meet in the courtyard for drinks before supper.

We probably shouldn’t… Marius brushed his thumb across Gabriel’s lower lip.

Probably not. He stepped away in case he succumbed to the temptation of making love to his gladiator. He turned back to the bed and moved the suitcase to the luggage rack not far from the door.

Masculine laughter, sounding like Titus and Ezra drifted in from the hall as they went to their own rooms.

Anything else to put away? Marius turned from the closet, shut the door and glanced at the suitcase.

I think we’re good. Their small toiletry bags already sat on the counter of their in-suite bathroom. It still marveled him that not only did Max have this castle-like house, but one entire wing was devoted to rooms that rivaled any luxury hotel. He expected small bars of soap and bottles of shampoo, though thankfully for the environment, his friend didn’t go that far. Still, for a mild mannered college history professor, Max held surprises and probably more than a few secrets. He glanced at his jeans and a geeky shirt featuring comic book characters and decided he’d look just fine. After all, they were friends meeting each other after a few months apart—not a huge wedding party at rehearsal or something. Or so he hoped.

He let the relief that there were no fussing in-laws or family feuds to navigate at this wedding. He’d gone to his cousin’s nuptials last year. Between the aunts fighting each other and the kids…well, it was not an exciting experience. Besides that, it’d happened before he’d met Marius, so he’d been the single guy they’d all thrown bridesmaids at. Ugh. Even after he’d told them he was gay, they’d persisted, and he’d made a hasty exit from a wedding reception that featured too much country music for his tastes. At least here, he’d be among friends.

Marius caught his hand and tangled their fingers together as they exited the room. Thank you, he whispered, pausing once again for a kiss.

Get a room! Lucius joked as he stepped out of the room he’d share with Greg.

Very funny, Marius responded. We have a room. Letting his hand rest low on Gabriel’s waist, he hugged him close and they headed down the hall.

Gabriel relished the hand close to his ass. The five gladiators made a houseful, that was for sure, even in an estate of this size. The men never
