The New Scientific Paradigm : Testohistorodynamic Theory of Human Evolution Through Viral and Microbial Symbiogenesis and Epigenetic Inheritance

The new revolutionary scientific paradigm of Testohistorodynamics describes a new theory of human brain evolution that factors into human evolution Lynn Margulis's discovery of Viral and Microbia Symbiogenesis along with Epigenetic inheritance.  The new paradigm of the Testohistorodynamic Theory of evolution of the human brain specifically describes the effect of one protozoan pathogen, Toxoplasma Gondii that is the most successful parasite on earth in terms of wide scale infection of diverse mammals. Toxoplasma Gondii triggers the release of high levels of the hormone Testosterone in human males.

The Testosterone restructures neural network architecture in the human brain, and the RNA mechanism enabling  Epigenetic inheritance of "expressed" traits by specific elements in the  DNA genome of a person being activated, enables this altered brain architecture to be passed  down to children. The human Alpha male with high levels of Testosterone, due to being infected with the Toxoplasma Gondii parasite, is more likely to be aggressive and violent.  In any conflicts such an Alpha Male is more likely to win again, and this is called the "Winner Effect." High status human Alpha males, (war lords), with brains infected by the Toxoplasma Gondii parasite created nation states through warfare.

The adoption of domestication of plants, raising of grain crops, and abandonment of hunter-gatherer nomadic ways of life, led to infestation of stationary tribal communities with rats and mice lured to human habitations by storage of grains. Wild cats soon followed the rodents to human villages located in the middle of fields of cultivated crops.

The Toxoplasma Gondii parasite which is only able to reproduce in cats, was excreted onto the dirt in and around villages and the parasite soon infected humans on a massive scale.  The parasite has designed itself through evolution, to make rodents such as mice and rats, lose their fear and even be attracted to cats. Cats infected with the parasite become more aggressive and more predatory. When the Toxoplasma Gondii parasite infects human brains, it causes people so infected to irrationally love cats.  Many ancient cultures that developed all over the world that were based on agriculture, developed female goddesses depicted with cat heads.  The divine catwomen, were associated with the light of the sun.  Worship of cats/sun/women are merged into a love of cats.

 From that infestation of human bodies and brains, a more aggressive pursuit of warfare developed. Alpha males killed the men and boys of foreign tribes they attacked, and took the females as slaves.  Out of this activity founded on Toxoplasma Gondii triggered release of the hormone Testosterone, conglomerations of tribes were assembled that  eventually became nation/states.  Further development of more accumulation of power finally made ancient empires appear. The empires were created founded upon warfare and slavery of captured peoples. Introduction

This book offers a  new paradigm that is a simple scientifically based theoretical tool; Testohistorodynamic Theory of human brain evolution through Viral and Microbial Symbiosis enabling Symbiogenesis and resulting sometimes in Epigenetic inheritance.  This new evolutionary theory will enable you to more easily and accurately interpret our social reality as we experience it now. Our evolutionary history is what it is. The way we interpret our reality and ourselves, is the result of over a billion years of evolution of life on earth. What we embody today by existing as we currently are, is the sum total of everything that our ancestors have lived through long before we were born. The outcome of what we are today, is the result of what they were. It might seem too obvious to state; but what we are now is the outcome of what worked to enable members of our species to survive with the passage of time, and live long enough to reproduce. Whatever they did, and however they behaved and acted, worked enough to successfully survive long enough to breed and have children. Their physical bodies and brains evolved over time, to somehow achieve the goal of reproduction so that the species continued to live on and exist. A malformed or deficient body, or an inaccurate or slow interpretation of reality, resulting in overlooking a dangerous threat to life, resulted in extinction of that defective animal. The way our brains function now is the result of successful enough accurate interpretation of our surroundings to enable escape from dangerous predators. We are the sum total of all that has gone before. The way we are now is a product of the past experiences of our remote ancestors who interpreted reality accurately enough to survive. That product or bundle of pre-existing genetically programmed traits and abilities, inables us to continue to live as a species. Inaccurate interpretation of reality and of other members of our species, results in behavior that leads to death.

The relatively new field of Evolutionary Psychology attempts to explain the way we think now, and how our emotions emerge so as to form a personality, as the outcome of millions of years of struggling to survive long enough to breed and reproduce. Central to this scientific endeavor to understand ourselves as a species, is the recognition of preexisting instincts that are genetically programmed into the two sexes of our species, and which differ considerably from each other depending upon whether you are born male or female. While the two sexes share many of the same abilities and have almost identical feelings, there still exist differences that result in an altered mentality that determines the way most females and males behave. This statement may seem self-evident now, but a couple of generations of academic researchers in the social sciences actually denied the existence of genetically programmed preexisting male and female traits, and apparently for political reasons, forcefully proclaimed that people were born with metaphorical blank slates as brains, and everything including sexual orientation, was learned. With social conditioning attributed to being the major contributor to how people turned out, altering society was viewed as a way to alter the human being, and create a new man.  ( Notice the man part of this ideological dogma. The people who advocated for social change were largely males, and wanted to change the characteristics of mankind.  Women, or the female majority of our species, were more or less ignored.) The male academics managed to ignore the obvious for about 60 years, till the evidence became overwhelming that, no, people are products of evolution like all other living species on earth, and we share many instincts in common with other animals.

However stupid their prior conclusions may seem now, the results still live on inside the social sciences, with the result that human violence manifesting as warfare and genocide is still not well understood. The examination of such behavior was discouraged within the social sciences, and so disciplines such as Sociology and Psychology were put at a disadvantage.  Our species is a social animal, and engagement in collective cooperative endeavors such as males massing together in groups and attacking other out-group populations, resulting in  engaging in mass murder of those populations, is still mostly ignored by the mental health/mental hygiene professions.  Anthropologists such as Lionel Tiger did study the behavior of males of our species. ( See: Lional Tiger: Men in Groups. Random House, Inc. NYC. NY. 1969) Erich Fromm also focused on male aggression in his book published in 1973 entitled: The Anatomy of Human Destructivemess (  Holt, Rinehart and Winston, , NYC. NY. 1973) Some academics do address the subject of our species’ unique behavior of mass murder of others of our kind, such as David Livingstone Smith, but his analysis is incomplete. ( See: David Livingstone Smith: The Most Dangerous Animal: Human Nature and the Origins of War. ( St. Martin’s Press. 175 Fifth Avenue, NYC. NY. 10010.  2007 ) Smith actually identifies a distinguishing trait motivating human males to try to kill others of our species, which is a fear of parasitic caused disease contaminating their own in-group population. This he does in Chapter 10 of his book, entitled: Predators, Prey, and Parasites. (pp. 183-211) But he misinterprets the data, even while recognizing that instinctively programmed feelings of disgust caused by the symptoms of infectious diseases exist in humans. The avoidance of filthy rotten things, coincides with a feeling of disgust, that further motivates a human to avoid any contact with them.  Disgusting things, are frequently vectors of ‘disease’ spreading toxic pathogens that cause suffering and death in animals.

A constant pattern by which warfare is justified, is to dehumanize the human targets of violence, and compare them to filthy things, rodents, and insects. Once a person or foreign population  of out-group humans is placed into the category of less-than-human source of dirty rotten unhealthy filth, then an excuse for cleansing of the land is manufactured. The people targeted for death, are categorized as sub-human sources of health threatening diseased animals. Smith speculates that the instinctive programming to avoid typical sources of disease, contributes to the psychology of war. ( Smith.  Hitler labeling Jews as germs p. 202,  danger due to unclean things hiding invisible threat p. 205, disgust as emotional response whose goal is avoidance of sources of infection p. 206, Hitler calling Jews a form of virus poisoning blood of Germans p. 208) Smith makes the mistake of thinking there is such a thing as human nature. A major flaw in his otherwise informative investigation is the assumption that our species has some kind of unique human nature. In fact, the new evolutionary paradigm of Testohistorodynamics ends that delusionary belief. While Smith recognizes that organized violence against others manifesting as warfare can only be engaged in by people lying to themselves, and believing falsehoods about the sub-human status of the prey/enemy to be exterminated, he perpetuates a major myth. There is no human nature., or if there is, then we share that hypothetical unique human essence with all other mammals.

People not only lie to others, and deceive themselves about who they are, projecting  delusionary beliefs onto others that they/(predators) then attack, but they (mostly males) also ascribe the attribute of evil to the targets/(prey)  of their murderous violence. ( There is a reason that the author M.Scott Peck, entitled his book on the psychology of antisocial sociopaths/psychopaths: People of the Lie: The Hope for Healing of Human Evil. ( Touchstone. Simon & Schuster, Inc. . 1230 Avenue of the Americas. NYC. NY. 10020.  1983) The new evolutionary paradigm of Testohistorodynamic Theory disabuses people of their delusionary beliefs, and proves that there not only is no such thing as human nature, but also no such thing as evil.  If you want to learn about the real factors contributing to the evolution of the human brain, and what is responsible for the coming into being of our warfare based Anglo American Empire of Debt/credit, as well as what is responsible for the German unsuccessful attempt at mass murder/genocide of the vulnerable Jewish minority targeted for death which scapegoating outcome we identify by the word ‘Holocaust or Sho’ah, read on. Peeling off delusionary theological derived dogmatic terms, such as the words human nature and evil, when used in the attempt to explain human homicidal behavior,  is one outcome of this new scientific paradigm objectively describing our species’  evolution.  If you have a closed mind, and are comfortable living within the commonly shared, status quo supporting, conformist, consensus reality framing set of old dogmatic beliefs that inadequately explain" male human engagement in mass murder, then close this book forever. Because after reading it, you will forever interpret all of your reality in a new way, and perceive yourself as something other than what you currently believe yourself to be.

This new r/evolutionary scientific paradigm is a new way for us, meaning all of humanity,  to perceive ourselves and our relationship with everything else existing in the universe.  It explains a newly discovered factor that contributed to the evolution of the human brain, and helped  to accelerate the speed of our species’ evolution, the origin of most human male aggression and violence,  the genesis of empire/civilization, the creation of religions and cultures centered around worship and identification with cats and other animals, religious prohibitions on what to eat, taboos on interacting with strangers outside the community, and the worldwide building by numerous ancient empires of monumental architecture in the shape of pyramids. All of these diverse phenomena are linked and only symptoms created by a common source.  The new paradigm, (which takes the form of a new narrative of human evolution),  presented here builds on various evolutionary theories which are already in circulation, which themselves are based on discoveries in biochemistry, neurology, and genetics. The new theory of evolution presented here, emerges out of the most recent discoveries in genetics and innate genetically programmed biological mechanisms regulating the capacity for adaptation  of animals to the environment.  As such, the new evolutionary paradigm of Testohistorodynamic Theory when applied to our brain evolution is a synthesis of human history, that history also consisting of the evolution of our human species going back hundreds of thousands, or even millions of years, ( if you want to extend that human category to the various types of hominids ( Homo Erectus, Homo Habilis, Home Floresiensis, Homo Luzonensis, Homo Heidelbergensis, Denisovans, and Neanderthals),  which is of doubtful validity.

The new paradigm offers a trans-cultural universal explanation for why our predatory species behaves so violently, and how it has evolved and continues to become more intelligent through Epigenetic expression of pre-existing potential traits stored in dormant DNA ( variations of which in genetic code are called alleles which have slight variations between them), within our genome/inheritance, which when turned on or activated,  become part of our capacity to respond to the environment. A population of the same species may have different alleles of the same segment of code expressed, and those slightly different forms as expressed, may manifest as either positive or negative in terms of survival of the individual living thing. The diversity of code  for a trait or function is generated out of random mutations, which accumulate inside the genome as alternatives/alleles for the normal version that is typically used by the gene. ( When unexpressed and inactive the dormant code is called the genotype, as opposed to when some parts are activated the expressed results are called the phenotype. )  Once that inactive part/segment of our DNA composing part of our genome is expressed or turned on by RNA, then it becomes part of our ‘phenotype,’ or existing set of active traits that are apparent. Messenger ( mRNA), Transcription(tRNA) and Ribosomal rRNA  act in concert as a kind of regulatory mechanism for activation of the existing code inside our genome for making proteins.  Epigenetics refers to the self-regulating capacity of our genome to respond to life-experience, and alter expression of our existing library of DNA comprising our genome, activating the production of proteins that were not produced since not needed,  and these changes to the parental genome are sometimes passed along to progeny as acquired capacities or  predispositions, generation to generation.  This very fast adaptation to the environment is a form of quick evolution.  This inheritance of a changed ‘expressed’ genome in only one generation due to experience of environmental effects on parents, is due to the biological mechanism developed through Darwinian natural selection, to adapt better to challenges and changes in the environment by the Epigenetic mechanism inabled by  the three forms of RNA  which  enables DNA gene regulation so a potential dormant capacity is expressed and passed along to children. The Endosymbiotic explanation for evolution of new species of life is adapted and altered and applied by the  new Testohistorodynamic paradigm of evolution that describes a massive change in the way the human brain operates through the mechanism of toxic disease causing Microbial and Viral pathogens making a new (adversarial) form of Symbiosis of bacteria and viruses with mammals, occasionally resulting in Symbiogenesis by which a new sub-species is created.  Our evolution as a species has not only been shaped by beneign forms of cooperation between various helpful bacteria that our species has evolved over the passage of millions of years to rely upon to perform useful functions such as help us digest food, but also by toxic pathogens infesting our brains.  When applied to our human species this recent brain evolution is enabled due to the mechanism of Epigenetic inheritance, by which new expressed capacities that were part of the overwhelming majority of the human genome,  (called junk DNA because it appeared to have no function), are activated by RNA so as to create a difference in both human modes of thought, and a consequent change in behavior.  This book offers a new narrative of  the brain evolution of the human species.  The new discipline of Evolutionary Psychology that is now so popular, and which attempts to explain all human attributes and mental phenomena currently existing as enabling survival in the past by our ancestors  and all produced by the Darwinian emergent force or pattern of natural selection, is surpassed. Reductionist methods of explaining human reality, such as Evolutionary Psychology’s explanations,  are ultimately deterministic, as Kennith R. Miller recognizes. ( See his arguments for free will despite acknowledging the evolutionary outcome that is  manifested in our species’ self-consciousness. ( The Human Instinct: How We Evoloved to Have Reason, Consciousness, and Free Will.  Simon and Schuster. 1230 Avenue of the Americas. NYC. NY. 10020.  2018.  pp. 35,186, 187, Peter Ulric Tse 191-197, overcome evolutionary drives by reason 197, 218) But Mr. Miller, as well everyone else,  ignore another key factor in the development of the modern human brain. The new evolutionary paradigm THD Theory, argues that accidental or chance exposure to toxic pathogens, that evolved to infest the brains of rodents, and enable predators such as cats, to catch and eat them more easily, have altered and accelerated our species’  brain development.  Our species relatively weak immune system that fails to respond in a way that renders the invasive toxic pathogens causing brain damage (resulting in many mental illnesses) harmless, also fails to successfully expel them from our bodies.   The presence of toxic viruses and bacteria successfully invading our species is a cause of recent human evolutionary change. The THD paradigm proposes that toxic microbial and viral pathogens damage brain tissue, deform inherited instinctual emotional production manifesting as ‘feelings,’ that result in a transformation of individual human personality.  That change due to contamination of the body and brain by toxic invasive pathogens, also results in altered behavior by people who are suffering from chronic disease.

Symbiogenesis enabled by bacterial/viral infection of our species, resulting in changing the behavior of humans due to contagious toxic pathogens causing  ‘disease,’ has had a significant impact on human brain evolution. The new paradigm asserts that ‘disease’ caused by toxic zoonotic ( animal/human shared vulnerability to toxic bacteria and viruses) pathogens has shaped the way our species thinks. Adversarial relationships between pathogens and ourselves, can result in positive Symbiogenesis, by which a new sub-species of humans is created. The new sub-species of humanity, is more violent, and over thousands of years has attacked more peaceful groups of people, killing the males and making the females captive field workers and sex slaves. The new scientific evolutionary paradigm asserts that humanity has evolved in the past 100,000 years at least, and also within historically documented times( roughly the last six thousand years since ‘states’ were formed), and this brain evolution is due to anti-fragile adaptive reactions to infestation of our bodies and brains by toxic pathogens in the form of viruses and various strains of bacteria. We, as a species, have adapted to being exposed to toxic pathogens that our immune system has little or no effective defenses against. One reaction to being infected by toxic pathogens, is that some of them apparently regulate or trigger the release a hormone inside the human body: Testosterone.  Toxic invasive bacteria also seem to alter the human body’s production of neurotransmitters such as Dopamine, and Serotonin.  These all  influence how people think and behave.  Imbalances in both hormones and neurotransmitters can result in an increase of aggressiveness in males of our species. Derangement of normal qualitative awareness in mammals can result from either an abnormal increase or decrease of neurotransmitter molecules inside the human brain.

Some toxic pathogens seem to have evolved through Darwinian emergent force of ‘natural selection’ to be able to alter the body’s mechanisms for release of both hormones and neurotransmitters, so as to make the mammals vulnerable to other predators. Losing the ability to feel fear, and consequent engagement in risky reckless behavior increases the likelihood of being eaten by predators. By enabling prey to be eaten, the toxic pathogens spread from mammal to mammal, from species to species. The new scientific paradigm also helps explain the growth of violence inside human populations, coinciding with the invention of the conglomeration of tribes under one warlord/king, which social outcome is known as a state or nation.  Homicidal violence and civilization go together like a hand and glove.  The 20th Century was the most violent to date, with the historical records documenting  infliction of violence upon all members of our own species (civilian women, children, babies, elderly of both sexes), by various empires led by psychopaths ( Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Herohito),  clashing together to establish dominance over large territories on earth.  The 20th Century was the age of warfare, and that extreme era of total war, wherein entire civilian cities containing hundreds of thousands of people were incinerated through firebombs, was also a century of amazing cultural,   (scientific/artistic/architectural/musical/literary/philosophical),  accomplishments which equates to a high level of achievement inside a civilization.  While other parts of the world stagnated, the most culturally dynamic and also the most violent, were the peoples enclosed within the boundaries of the European/American sphere of Empire.  That sphere of civilization I call the Anglo American Empire of Debt/credit. 

The new scientific paradigm of Testohistorodynamic Theory ( THD Theory) results in a new explanation of the source of human (male) violence. The new evolutionary paradigm explains the content of Integral Philosophy, (which is a recent contribution to Western philosophic thought developed by Ken Wilber;   summing up of different approaches to interpretation of human existence using a holistic right hemisphere produced mode of thinking),  by explaining how this accomplishment was done by our species.  Explaining a new factor, ( toxic viral and bacterial pathogens), impacting human brain evolution, also helps in the attempt to understand everything that the human brain has created and invented.  Thus, the new r/evolutionary paradigm explains, and creates a theoretical framework for interpreting scientific knowledge as well as cultural achievement  developed by our species.  Evolutionary theories  explaining brain evolution, and the successful interpretation of the  modes of thinking (cognitive norms) resulting from our evolutionary experience, enable an explanation for scientific achievement by our species.

The Neurobiological and Evolutionary Neuropsychological based THD Theory, provides a new evolutionary narrative based on discoveries in Neuroethology, Neuroendocrinology, Developmental Neurovirology, Autoimmune Neurology, and  the new field of Neurohistory, to explains the capacity for recent  intellectual development by our species (specifically: left brain hemisphere dominance primarily used in the interpretation of our shared intersubjective reality). The evolution of the human brain in the Holocine has been shaped by the mechanism  described as ( adversarial) Viral and Microbial Symbiosis, enabling Symbiogenesis resulting in a new ‘sub-species’ of humans I call the Neuro Tribe,  which is enabled by the RNA mechanisms resulting in Epigenetic inheritance of acquired characteristics. The kind of Symbiogenesis described here is adversarial or founded upon the reality of plagues of disease (many kinds of viruses, as well as bacteria, take up an unwelcome residence in animal hosts and harm them),  moving through human populations since the invention of the domestication of plants and animals beginning after the end of the last Ice Age about 12,700 years ago.  Evolution of our species is enabled by not only a mutually beneficial relationship between many types of bacteria taking up residence in our bodies (we acting as hosts of colonies of critically important bacteria such as those that break down and help digest the food in our gut), but also from invasive contagious forms of toxic pathogenic adversarial unwelcome viruses and bacteria which trigger responses inside our bodies that alter our mode of interpreting reality, affect our mental attitude or moods, cause various malfunctions in cognition we identify as mental illnesses, and predispose us to make dangerous risky decisions, which are manifested in behavior that is aggressive and violent. The good kind of beneign collaboration between animals and bacteria who co-evolve together is called Symbiosis. A bad relationship between toxic bacteria and viruses harmful to the animal they infect, which triggers a response in the mammal that results in Epigenetic change,  might be called: ‘Diseasegenesis’ or ‘Pathogenesis.’   But I prefer the afore mentioned:  THD Theory.  

Diseased animals attempt to adapt and survive the harmful pathogens that inhabit their bodies, and by doing so, the survivers who don’t die can respond in such a way as to alter their metabolism or modes of behavior.  This response within our own species, is what is described in the new evolutionary paradigm of Testohistorodynamic Theory. An animal that has survived infestation by toxic pathogens, manifesting as ‘disease’ in their body that harms them, may pass along the trait that allowed them to survive to their progeny. (This is classical Darwinian natural selection, and is valid.)  It is argued in this book devoted to explaining a new theory of evolution, that our species has successfully adapted to having diseased brains, and this adaptation impacted the brain’s neural network architecture and has been inherited by the next generation, through Epigenetic mechanism enabling inheritance of acquired parental traits. Epigenetic inheritance of acquired traits from one generation to the next,  is enabled or caused by the mechanism of RNA expression/activation  of already existing but unexpressed DNA segments inside the human genome in response to environmental stimulus.  The existing genome does not change, but some parts of the DNA composing the genome, are either turned on or off. The word: Testo-historo-dynamic can be broken into three parts which are Testosterone, History, and of course, Dynamic.  Testosterone is a steroid hormone released by the human male body’s testes/gonads/sexual organs  that causes behavioral changes in male mammals, making them more aggressive and enlarging their sex drive. This kind of steroid hormone is fat soluble, so passes through cell membranes. Once inside the nucleus of a cell, it can bind to a receptor called a chromatin.  Once the hormone is attached to the chromatin, it can trigger certain kinds of  RNA molecules, called messenger RNA or mRNA, which then perform another function called translation to tRNA via three amino acid bases called a codon. Each tRNA  strand codes for proteins by having at one end an amino acid molecule. The three different amino acids can only attach to tRNA by matching up to particular codons.   The mechanism by which existing but dormant DNA is expressed  or activated to make proteins is through methylation and acetylation. The tRNA then codes for production of proteins with ribosome rRNA which contributes to catalyze amino acids by mingling two rRNA molocules with various proteins. There are between 22,000 thousand and 25,000 thousands DNA segments (genes) that code for synthesis of about 50,000 or 60,000 thousand different kinds of proteins.  The reason that fewer genes can code more proteins, is they can act in concert together and some genes code for more than one protein when combined in unique ways with other genes at the same time.  There are also a huge number of  regulatory genes that are code that control the production and growth of many kinds of cells which compose specific parts of our body. Experiences by an animal are registered by the body, or cause a reaction by release of either of these molecules ( methanism and acetylation) which usually bind at the cytosine location in DNA. Cytosine is one of the four bases that compose the  DNA code.  Methylation turns a segment of DNA genome off ( a gene off, so to speak) , and deactivates it so it is unexpressed.  Acetylation affects proteins called histones.  Histones influence DNA and when acetylation attaches to the lysine amino acid at the end of the histone, the DNA gene is activated or expressed. The simplified explanation above,  of how the bodies of animals register environmental experience, and how the genome responds by altering segments of DNA inside the genome through activation or  ‘expression,’  is the mechanism that life has developed through ‘trial and error’ involving the emergent force of what is called Darwinian natural selection to weed out/eliminate what doesn’t work, and is defined as Epigenetics. Life has evolved mechanisms through the Darwinian process of ‘natural selection,’ to enable it to reprogram its own DNA by selective activation of parts of the genome, in response to threats and changes in the specific environment in which living things live. Epigenetic inheritance of acquired characteristics due to selective mRNA expression of segments of DNA code composing  the genome is a new field to study inside molecular biology,  and much remains to be discovered and explained.  The genome evolved to be able to regulate itself in response to environmental change experienced by an organism, due to the increased survival value of those organisms containing DNA code enabling this response to happen. The response capability happened by accident through random mutation, but once some organisms survived by having this inherited capacity to regulate expression of parts of their own genome, then they were better able to survive to reproduce. In a relatively short time, most forms of life on earth gained this genetically programmed Epigenetic capacity.

The records contained under the category of History  are the narrative record of humans on earth, and can now be reinterpreted as data recording brain evolution of our species as it evolved through time. I consider the research findings that compose the narrative called by the subject Anthropology, as presented in the works of Marvin Harris, Robin Fox,  Lionel Tiger, and Robert Ardrey, to be part of the narrative of human history. Historical events are symptoms of human mental capacity, and narratives describing the response to the environments they inhabited. How people describe themselves by creating narratives reveals the limits of what they imagine themselves to be. Narratives are imaginative recreations of reality in symbolic form (language), of a reality that no longer exists. Framing reality, they establish the limits  of the conceivable. Examining human history and all cultural creations from a scientific perspective as natural outgrowths of brain function, and therefore evidence of particular forms of neural network activity, leads to clarity. That shift can be described as Neurohistory, and this reorientation of perspective of historical events, such as the development of empires by our species, is a form of scientific reductionism.  Changes in human brain activity over time, enable such things as empires to develop. The capacity to create new cultural reality, and gigantic social organizations/networks required by the development of empire, can be scientifically described and their emergence explained, using the intellectual tools provided in this book. Human brain evolution has accelerated with the development of empire.  

This book amplifies ideas and approaches already in circulation and published by other authors.  The uniqueness of the Testohistorodynamic  narrative arises out of the new frame of reference by which anthropological and historical evidence is evaluated. Precursors of this new orientation are already in existence, but the many different perspectives are not unified or reconciled one to the other.  In addition,  how reality is perceived, determines the acceptable parameters of what is contained in a question on the reality that is apprehended.  Frequently specialists who know an amazing amount about what they have studied in a field of knowledge, don’t know how to approach that area they study from a fresh and novel direction. There exist some websites now, where corporate R&D departments list problems to be solved, which their own specialists have failed to discover answers to, and the people who create viable solutions are awarded financial compensation.  People with no expertise in a scientific field or experience when presented with a perplexing problem in engineering, can solve what those too close to the subject can’t see.  A new frame of reference is necessary to ask the right questions. This is typically called: Thinking outside the box.  Books have been devoted to encouragement of creativity, such as David Perkins: The Eureka Effect:  The Art and Logic of Breakthrough Thinking.  ( W.W. Norton and Company. 500 Fifth Ave. NYC. NY. 10110  2001)  The brain can stimulate itself to be creative. (Any human brain can stimulate itself to think metaphorically and so be able to produce poetry.)  Self-conscious progress in modes of thinking that contribute to creative solutions is possible.  Anyone can learn to be creative. But learning that art is something that schools ignore.  Current corrculicum subject matter inside educational institutions does not encourage the mode of awareness produced by the right hemisphere of the brain, which is holistic in orientation, and which dependence upon for qualatitative content of consciousness, can result in creativity. Instead the educational institutions stress left brain hemisphere produced modes of thinking, which rarely result in any creative outcomes. Unschooled people usually are  more creative.  That is due to being ignorant of the narratives taught in schools that are devoted to ‘explaining reality within a framework that limits the available solutions.  Narratives describe how a people in a particular time and place, and sharing a common culture, imagine themselves to be.  But that framework limits the infinite potential output of the human brain.  The human brain’s potential abilities are limited by ancient narratives describing what is possible.  With the invention of the internet, anyone can research any topic.  Due to the existence of our contemporary tolerant empire,  anyone can buy the amazing amount of books available on any subject,  or go to a library and borrow ones they need to educate themselves. This book is a product by someone who is largely self-educated in evolutionary theory.  Perhaps not studying the subject of evolutionary biology in college helped me somewhat in reconfiguring the narrative of human brain development, ( and the development of civilization" out of the battle over territory resulting in the violent warfare engaged in by empires),  as one shaped by brain infestation by bacteria and viruses.  If you read this narrative that seeks to answer questions that have never been asked before with an open mind, you may find yourself intrigued and perhaps captivated. I have tried to make this scientific inquiry an exciting narrative and not some dull scholarly exposition that is boring,  and which no one will read. For this reason there is not much technical data or mention of the contents of the specialized fields of: Neuroendocrinology, Neuroethology, Autoimmune Neurology, and Neurovirology.  You don’t have to be a specialist in these scientific/medical fields of research to comprehend the significance of what the researchers working now are discovering.  A revolution in evolutionary biology is now ongoing.

The four great mysteries still to be explained are:  Why does the Universe exist?  Why did life come into being and how does it evolve and change as time passes? What is consciousness, and how is it produced?  What is time?

Evolutionary theory attempts to answer the second question.  Current evolutionary psychology seeks to answer the third question by  expanding the scope of Darwinian emergent evolutionary force of natural selection  to try to explain the coming into being of self-consciousness and capacity for symbolic representation/language. By definition, the presentation of any evolutionary theory is always in narrative form due to the contingent nature of reality existing in time. ( Stephen Jay Gould recognized this fact in his book: The Structure of Evolutionary Theory. ( Belknap Press. Harvard University Press. Cambridge, Mass. 2002. pp.1337,1338, 1339)  The subject of evolution over time is one that demands narrative form.  Evolutionary change cannot be reduced down to any kind of mathematical formula. The reason is that random chance and circumstance influence evolutionary change, which is another way of saying we live in a conditional reality inside time. . Narratives are always stories that depict events, and describe how one event is linked to another in time.  Narratives are used by our species to create meaning and explain who we are to ourselves. They are imaginative recreations of reality.  

Charles Darwin wrote three different narratives that attempted to answer the question of what humanity is. One book published in 1859 was entitled: On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life.  The other major book was published in 1871 entitled: The Decent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex. An ignored book he wrote in 1872 endeavored to show the similarity of emotions in humans and animals: The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals. It is a shame this book was ignored, since ‘animal rights’ endeavors to treat domesticated animals raised for food more humanely would have been looked upon with more acceptance.  Darwin’s books offered an alternative narrative, to the traditional ones believed in by most people, which at that time were religious in origin.  People during the Victorian era inside the British Empire knew Darwin’s new narrative challenged received opinion. Another name for that is conventional wisdom, which is an accepted and approved narrative.  Every people living inside a particular population group has a story it tells about itself, that seeks to explain existence and reality to those who belong to that particular culture or society. Every story they tell themselves is an imagined scenario.  Everything people believe without proof, are fantasy ideologies. ( This new scientific paradigm, abbreviated to: THD Theory, argues that much of the content of fantasy ideologies are produced by people with contagious zoonotic infections, whose reasoning capacity is deranged by viral and bacterial infestation of their bodies and brains, sometimes results in many forms of mental malfunction,  one of which in the mental illness we define as:  Schizophrenia.)  The strength of primordial instincts originating in the Pleistocene era directing males to acquire territory to defend, and then accumulate females to mate with,  are enhanced by toxic invasive pathogens infesting human bodies and brains. NY. 10017.  1966) pp. 34, 35, 51, 60, 69, 71, 76, 77, 79, 154, 241-243, 255, 263, 282, 291, 293, 294, 299-302, former Jewish ‘de-territorialized’ mentality 307-312) )  Since Darwin wrote, a lot of new evolutionary narratives seek to explain the mechanisms by which life came into being and developed.  ( I briefly outline 17 different approaches or narrative explanations for how life evolves (or how the human brain is changing) later in this introduction.) A scientifically accurate description of the evolutionary process by which our species arose, might successfully provide a solution to the third question, ( that being: what created the capacity for self-consciousness?).   If the narrative of evolutionary development is accurate, the reason why self-awareness or qualitative consciousness came into being on earth is more likely to be understood.  

The third element in the word: Testohistorodynamic is of course Dynamic.  That word  explains the synergy of the other two missing elements with the words already mentioned. The hormone Testosterone, as well as the biogenic amines called neurotransmitters such as Serotonin, Dopamine, Norepinephrine, and Acetylcholine, influence the human brain in ways that tremendously affect mood and behavior. The unique combination of those enzymes or chemicals inside our body and brain, impact the creation of our inherited capacity to produce emotions which manifest as feelings we experience in our awareness,   which in turn create our ‘personality.’  History is a narrative of life on earth. What narratives people tell themselves to explain how they feel and what they do, are influenced by many factors, including hormones such as Testosterone, and the four biogenic amine molecules that facilitate communication between the trillions of neurons composing the human brain. The hypothalamic pituitary adrenal network  has an impact on brain function, and influences our moods, ultimately impacting the content of our emotional temperament which we call our personality. The neurochemistsry of the brain is constantly changing in response to what humans experience as time passes.  The word Dynamic as used here, refers to evolutionary change in time due to the  viral and bacterial infestation of mammals which is described generally by the word used by Lynn Margulis; Endosymbiosis, that being a form of symbiosis contributing to the continued existence of all forms of life, which is responsible for much of evolution and the origin of the species. The colonization of our bodies by beneficial bacteria performing useful services for us, as hosts, is an example of cooperation inside the realm of nature, and is described as Symbiosis.   This combination of different forms of life, or blending of organisms so as to live and spawn new forms together, is termed by the scientist, Lynn Margulis: Microbial Symbiogenesis. She calls the sum total of all the beneficial DNA of bacteria and viruses living inside us, when added to our own body, the Holobiont. ( Biont= organism)  The sum total of all DNA and genes of everything inhabiting us, including our own inherited genome, she calls the Hologenome. (See. Kevin R. Theis and Seth R. Bordenstein: Host Biology in Light of the Microbiome:  Ten Principles of Holobionts and Hologenomes.(www.https://journals:plos.org/plosbiology/ article?id=10.1371/ journals.pbio1002226 ) The dynamic interplay of bacteria and viruses, with other forms of life, forming symbiotic relationships benefiting each other, is a constant story of change over time.  The types of bacteria are divided into three realms: Prokarya, Eucarya, and the third discovered by Carl Woese in 1977 and named by him, is Archaea. Life is divided into five kingdoms: Bacteria, Protista, Fungi, Plantae, and what we are, Animalae.  The plants and animals all evolved from Eukaryotes, which themselves are a combination of different strains of the developmentally earlier, and less complex: Prokaryotes. All five types of reproducing forms of life, mingle together in extremely complicated relationships of mutual dependence. They also feed upon one another. When life forms mingle together in such a way as to benefit each other, this cooperation is called by the word: Symbiosis."

The content of the new THD paradigm focuses on toxic contagious pathogens (viruses and bacteria) that infect our bodies and brains, and alter the neurochemistry of our brains, thus impacting our subjective experience of moods and emotional states of mind, with consequent changes in our behavior. Put in a simpler way: toxic pathogens change human ‘personality.’  That change in termperment alters human behavior, which often leads to intense violence causing stress to whose who survive. Those experiences are  registered in the genome, and sometimes passed down to children via Epigenetic inheritance of acquired characteristics. This is the result of a dynamic relationship involving many different factors, though triggered by the toxic pathogens that are programmed to change behavior in mammals for their own benefit, which translates into better reproductive success for the bacteria and viruses (diseases) contaminating our bodies.  Toxic pathogens have had a huge but unrecognized effect on human brain evolution. The new evolutionary paradigm presented in this book seeks to prove that this dynamic ‘adversarial’ interchange between unrecognized (brain function altering) toxic pathogens and mammals such as ourselves,  has happened in the past and continues to this day.  The spread through human populations of unrecognized pandemics of brain chemistery altering toxic pathogens, is a dynamic factor that has resulted in a speeding up of evolutionary change in our species, as various forms of disease kills those unable to adapt. The new evolutionary paradigm presented here, is a synthesis of what is currently known to date in the scientific study of evolutionary biology and the many disciplines and field comprising ‘Neuroscience."

Evolutionary change is dynamic.  Life is anti-fragile, to quote Nassim Nicholas Taleb, who wrote a whole book devoted to that topic.  Life gains strength from adversity.  Evolution is a story of constantly changing environments, some of them enormously destructive, which life adapts to and overcomes, so as to thrive.  Being challenged by harsh conditions and new toxic viruses and alien strains of bacteria, usually ends up strengthening living things.  The dynamic quality of the relationship between many forms of life, the environment, bacteria and viruses, and life’s response to the threat of extinction, is the central core of the evolutionary narrative.  Life will use any means at its disposal to survive.  Living things, such as humans, have adapted to toxic infestations of our bodies, and even harnessed the capacities of various bacterial microbes and viruses to perform useful functions that enable our bodies to live and our species to reproduce.  This symbiosis is a form of dynamic symmetry; a balancing of various forces and things, so as to achieve harmony and continue to live.  A successful scientific narrative of evolution describes the dynamic relationship between all the factors listed above.  

The response to existence by humans is to create narratives. Our species creates narratives to generate meaning.  Perhaps a more accurate designation of our species is as a meaning generating form of animal.  New narrative forms such as the work of fiction called the novel, is an author’s response to their existence.  The most successful novels plunge deep into subjective experience of the characters. Novels also seek to depict in symbolic form the complexity of social reality, and the best of them embody universal subjective significance. The most intelligent members of the species, in other words those with the most neuron network complexity, are unsatisfied with narratives of meaning composed out of material phenomenon such as things and people. Another form of narrative that conveys meaning that aspires to universal significance is produced by the scientific method.  Using theory to test reality and see how it responds, then refining the content of theory based on experimental results, creates new narratives describing the reality around us.  Those people who use the scientific method strive for universal significance in the sciences, of which physics is the Queen, with mathematics being the King. Transcending narratives of particular experience which may or may not contain universal relevance,  a higher level of meaning is generated out of concepts and ideas, which are a form of logical narrative structure themselves. (Religious theology is a form of meaning generation out of ideas seeking to justify the perception of universal light inside the mind or Cosmic Consciousness.  Every culture has as its foundation apprehension of the universal light or cosmic energy.  Out of that apprehension forms of justification for its subjective existence inside the human mind are derived in long narratives.  It has been found by Anthropologists that tribal shamans have a high rate of the mental illness we call Schizophrenia, and so the inspiration for religious content may be a malfunctioning brain. What causes Schizophrenia is now being investigated, but one type of this mental illness appears to be caused by a toxic Zoonotic pathogen infesting human brains called Toxoplasma Gondii. (T. As usual, what is assumed as a given,  or an assumption that begins and forms the core of any unscientific narrative composed by the human mind, is unable to be really explained. So what is injected at the beginning of any narrative, determines the eventual outcome of logical conclusion.  Scientific narrative is different in depending upon observed behavior of material, and reductionist methods ( involving isolating discrete units of anything being examined), exemplified by the technique of experiments seeking new knowledge,  as what is observed reacts in unexpected ways. Scientific discoveries always surprise the inquiring mind. Nature behaves in unpredictable ways at first, with underlying patterns only slowly revealed by further testing and experimentation. Science is a narrative that changes its content based on assimilation of new knowledge gained by observation and rational analysis.   Symbolic structures are created, such as mathematics and physics equations,  that seek to describe the individual phenomena and make it obey universal patterns, by describing through mathematical symbols and physics equations:  universal ‘laws.’ The most intelligent of people attempt to form explanations for the large patterns they identify as existing. Instead of focusing on the particular ( things and people) they happen to observe, they seek to generate more significant meaning through comprehension of large scale patterns of  behavior manifesting in nature or reality.)   The generation of meaning is motivated by the inquiry for the universal inside human brains.  The most intelligent humans on earth seek meaning beyond the typical phenomenal experience of living within a family, occupying a place in a tribe,  or society, owning property, believing in customary cultural artifacts ( rituals, beliefs, myths),  and all the rest that people are satisfied with to create meaning in their lives.  People thirst for a meaningful existence. Evolutionary narratives give us all a deeper understanding of the genealogy of the species to which we belong,  and the understanding of the narrative history of the human species, can explain a lot of mysterious illogical (seemingly counter-productive) activity currently engaged in by our species.  This new scientific paradigm which I call Testohistorodynamic Theory (THD Theory) of evolution,   (but which could also be called: ‘Microviralhistorodynamic Theory’ or, as mentioned before: Pathogenesis), is a new narrative that generates new meaning by a creative synthesis of existing known facts discovered within the existing professional academic fields/disciplines,  that are then rendered somewhat obsolete by being surpassed in explanative ability by this new paradigm.  This is the way scientific narrative progresses.  A better explanation is given for existing phenomenon.  The new paradigm of evolutionary THD Theory described in this book, will be surpassed as new facts are discovered and assimilated, and new explanations generated.  Evolutionary theory itself evolves. 

When scientific theory or a paradigm’ remains unchanged for several generations, that is a sure sign of intellectual exhaustion and decline in the scientific method. ( William D. Hamilton’s Inclusive Fitness Theory as an explanation for altruistic behavior in animals is one example of stagnant evolutionary pseudo-scientific dogma.  His theory depends upon the emergent force of Darwinian ‘natural selection’ acting on  populations of various species taken as a whole.  Paul W. Ewald, in his book: Evolution of Infectious Diseases ( Oxford University Press. 200 Madison Avenue. NYC. NY. 10016.  1994 pp. 4-6)) notes that Hamilton’s application of natural selection at the level of populations doesn’t work when applied to specific toxic destructive infectious diseases and their hosts, (us) since there is little evidence of evolution to benignness. He attributes this to making the mistake of applying the concept of ‘natural selection’ beyond what it was originally designed to explain, when in fact the force of ‘natural selection’ only acts on what he calls specific levels." (Ewald p.4) )

The THD paradigm strengthens existing evolutionary theory by questioning current dogma in the academic fields of:  paleoanthropology, ethology, neuroethology, psychology, sociology, political science, economics,  and most conventional narratives of human cultural history.  Neuroendocrinology, ( the study of the relationship between the endocrine system regulating hormones and the nervous system), is also impacted. Neuropsychology is affected. By questioning the assumptions underlying these areas of specialization, new avenues of inquiry are opened up, and new questions asked that receive new answers.  This is healthy for everyone involved. The THD paradigm does not undermine most of the 17 different approaches to evolutionary theory listed later in this Introduction, but merely builds on top of most of them,  and augments them.  ( A couple of the theories I believe to be trendy, or irrelevant, (such as Dawkin’s Selfish Gene theory, and I ignore them throughout this new narrative of human brain evolution describing various toxic pathogens’ influence on the evolution of our species.) 

As mentioned already, the other element in the mix that adds a kind of pure rocket fuel to human brain evolutionary development is Epigenetics which is a word used to describe a kind of Neo-Lamarckian inheritance of acquired proclivities or potentialities due to life experience of your parents. (A good introduction to the new Neo-Lamarckian evolutionary theory is the book already noted, Lamarck’s Revenge, by Peter Ward.)  The responses to the environment pruned the neuron network of your parents’ brains, and changed the brain neuron architecture they were born with, by the brain having innate inherited genetically programmed ‘built-in’ mechanisms that enable it to physically respond to those life experiences.  Some of those changes were registered in the RNA expression of already existing DNA inside the cells of their bodies, and that triggering of specific segments of the DNA composing our genome, caused changes in their physical body chemistry, with release of Testosterone and other hormones.  Nuerotransmitters such as Dopamine, Serotonin, Acetylcholine, and Norepinephrine are also released or inhibited due to environmental stimulation, with chemical signals prompted by genetically programmed mechanisms.

Dr. H. G.  Landau, a University of Chicago biologist, discovered back in the 1950s, that the hormone Testosterone created in predatory mammals, a sudden social hierarchy with a top dog at the apex of the pyramid of power inside the pack, and a greater likelihood of success by this dominant Alpha male, in future combat to maintain his dominance. He called this Testosterone fueled successful behavior the Winner Effect.  A winning male with Testosterone saturating his body and brain, was more likely to fight again and win, thus releasing even more Testosterone into his body, and this became a self-reinforcing virtuous circle. The more the Alpha male won, the more he would win some more in the future, and the more the pack of predators would have
