About this ebook
Joe Gallant, playboy racecar driver, a man headed down the path of self-destruction. If there was one man Joe despised, it was Harper Morgan, his billionaire father Aaron’s best friend–and secret lover. Even though Harper’s dead, Joe still can’t forgive all the secrets and lies that destroyed his family. Now, years later, when Roberto Morgan, Harper’s stepson, shows up in Laredo, hired by Aaron to represent Joe in several endorsement contracts and to keep him out of trouble and out of the tabloids, Joe is not a happy man. Unfortunately, after Joe’s last headline-making car accident, he doesn’t have a choice.
Roberto Morgan, suave up-and-coming Dallas attorney, on the fast track to prominence and success. Rob isn’t pleased about being sent to south Texas to babysit Aaron Gallant’s roguish son, a man he’s never met in person. But Rob’s no fool—Aaron, his stepfather’s best friend, possesses many important connections potentially beneficial to Rob’s career. Aaron is the only other man Rob reveres as much as he did his stepfather. There seems no choice but to accept Joe Gallant as his newest client.
Secrets, lies, and a combustible attraction. Rob is determined to keep things on a professional footing. But the moment he meets Joe, he realizes keeping his distance is easier said than done. Sparks fly and an undeniable attraction ignites between the two men, until a shocking revelation turns blistering tensions on their head and alters everything Rob thought he knew.
Can Joe find forgiveness in order to see the man who just may be his savior in a different light? The fathers may have gotten it wrong, but can the sons get it right without losing their one chance at discovering happiness and love?

Chapter One
Late was not good. Not in this instance. Rob arrived at the celebratory party at half past midnight. Unfortunately, there was no help for it. There were things to wind up at campaign headquarters for the newly-elected congressman. Rob had taken just enough time to shower, change his casual tan business suit for a stylish black tuxedo suitable for a gathering at the Gallant mansion. He’d fitted the silk scarlet handkerchief into his breast pocket, and then quickly attempted to navigate his way through Dallas in order to get to the event.
The coveted position on the PR staff represented his first involvement with the campaign for a major political figure. Congressman Karlyle was a fresh face to the arena—charismatic, intelligent, and energetic. That the campaign was such a rousing success leading to a landslide victory, would look very good on Rob’s resume. Maintaining Clint’s public persona, doing the legwork to ferret out any tangles that might have caused problems to his candidacy, had not been a simple task. Rob’s knowledge of the law and his instincts in handling trouble had come in very handy in dowsing fires before they even had a chance to flare to life.
His associate position at one of Dallas’s most prestigious law firms, Lancaster and Cantrell, would not weigh lightly either. But what was most important to Rob was that Aaron Gallant, chairman of the board of Gallant Worldwide, had noticed him, and when the billionaire had walked through the campaign headquarters mid-morning after casting his vote on Election Day, he’d made a special stop to congratulate Rob for a job well done.
Rob stroked his fingers over the blue-tinted face of the Rolex and couldn’t help grinning. Perhaps his father would have been proud if he’d been here. He would like to think so. Driving his black Jaguar made the trip through the busy Dallas streets speedy and seamless. Once beyond the city limits he lightly encouraged the car to burn up the road, sending his pulse quickening as he sped along the two-lane highway toward the Gallant estate.
A white-coated parking valet met him as he pulled up in front of the sprawling, southern-style mansion, and he expertly took command of the vehicle. Music, laughter, the tinkling of fine crystal met Rob’s hearing as he mounted the steps to the open front doors. People milled around, strolling in and out, and his first impression was that the atmosphere reminded him of a gala providing depression-era extravaganza. Booze and jewels, uninhibited gaiety, everyone flying high with the exuberance of backing the winning candidate.
A number of people stopped him, shook his hand, and offered congratulations, making it a slow circuit to gain the packed main high-ceilinged ballroom. With a flourish, a sandy-haired waiter offered him a glass from the shining silver tray of fluted glasses filled with sparkling champagne. Rob sipped from the glass as he circuited his way around the fringe of the partiers, finally making his way out onto the well-lit terrace and into the gardens. The scent of honeysuckle and jasmine floated around him. The gardens, Jolene Gallant’s pride and joy, were only somewhat quieter than the ballroom. As he moved farther along the lighted pathway and came to the second level terrace, he surveyed some of the deeply tanned, skimpily-clad younger attendees as they made use of the Olympic-size heated pool. Their laughter and squeals, splashing water, and the scents of chlorine and alcohol pervaded the scene, mixed with the more subtly delicate scents of lilacs and roses.
A heavy hand settled upon his shoulder. Fine job, Rob, fine one indeed. Your father would have been proud.
Rob beamed beneath the compliment and drew himself up before turning to greet Aaron Gallant, the host of the party. He was a big, strapping man even at the age of seventy-four, a lesson for them all on the importance of remaining in the mainstream of life and never easing up. His own father, or rather stepfather, had died of a heart attack at the age of fifty, a great loss to both his mother, and to Rob, who had been twenty-one at the time, and right in the middle of his college studies. Harper Morgan had been Aaron’s right-hand man, serving as vice president of operations, for as long as Rob could remember.
He felt the weight of the Rolex on his wrist—it had belonged to his father, a gift from Aaron Gallant back in 1988. The man standing in front of Rob had also been a business partner in several lesser undertakings that now served to secure his mother’s ability to maintain her current lifestyle in the wake of Harper’s passing. Harper’s friendship with Aaron had endured right up until the day Rob’s father died. Rob was surprised when he was granted a leave of absence in order to assist in the campaign. It was only later that he’d learned it was through Aaron Gallant’s insistence.
I want to talk to you about something, Rob. Come with me up to my study where it’s quieter and we won’t be disturbed.
Certainly, sir.
Rob felt a growing excitement. Had he managed to distinguish himself enough to earn entrance into the Gallant Worldwide chairman of the board’s inner circle of intimates? He set the half-empty champagne glass on a tray near the open glass doors, then followed Aaron along a secluded shrub-lined loose-stoned pathway that circled the terrace and brought them to a side entrance. Rob treaded silently up the blue-carpeted staircase to the second floor, down the silent hallway, and into Aaron’s private study.
It was a huge, tasteful, if not overtly masculine room, with a boar’s head and a lion decorating the wide-paneled cherry walls, mounted between the floor-to-ceiling book cases containing an astonishing array of antique and modern tomes. He led Rob over to a seating area in front of the fireplace, flanked by two tan leather upholstered sofas, and a low-set square oak coffee table resting between.
Sit, and I’ll get us something decent to drink.
While Rob carefully settled himself onto the couch, Aaron poured out two glasses of cognac, came around, and handed one to Rob. He took a seat on the other side of the coffee table, leaned back and crossed his long legs. He studied Rob closely beneath his bushy gray-black brows before finally speaking.
I have a job that needs doing and I think you’re the man to take it on. I don’t want one of those other wet-behind-the-ears associates of Jeb Lancaster’s to do this for me. I want you.
Rob sipped from the glass. The cognac went down smooth as silk, a line of sweet fire to his belly. A job?
He knew better than to appear too eager.
Now I’ve talked this over with Jeb and he’s agreeable, so it only comes down to you. I’ve told him I want you in on this.
He leaned forward in a confidential manner. You’re my man, Rob. Won’t have it any other way.
Rob’s heart drummed inside his chest. Could it be? The firm he worked for didn’t do all of Gallant’s work, of course, but a good share of his estate work was handled by Jeb Lancaster, one of the senior partners at Lancaster and Cantrell. What is it exactly that you need?
"I expect you know that Gallant Worldwide holds interests in a racing team. GWER. And my son Joe is one of the drivers. For some asinine reason the two
