Hanging By Threads :Part One Volume I
()
About this ebook
Volume One of Hanging By Threads: Part One delves into the media's false portrayal of actual events surrounding a US Navy rescue at sea of two women and their two dogs in October 2017. This well documented discovery is a MUST READ for every journalism student. Successfully sailing in the Pacific Ocean is a survival story often filled with entertaining episodes of ocean experiences without the media twisting a fish story of its own. Enjoy a fascinating journey through the major media missteps designed to steer an unwitting public into believing false news.
Volume Two of Hanging By Threads: Part Two The Sea Nymph Ocean Saga explored what really happened on our amazing blue water adventure.
Volume Three of Hanging By Threads: Part Three Who Knew What and When uncovers the back story where reporters who admitted they knew the truth continued to espouse the false "story line."
Who controls what you read and hear as news? How can we trust journalistic integrity when those who are supposed to uncover the facts purposely hide them?
Jennifer Appel
Hanging By Threads volumes 1, 2, 3 and 4 are the most recent diatribes of my life. Prior to the US Navy rescue at sea, Jennifer had an illustrious career as a registered landscape architect, practicing in multiple states. Concerned about pet health and lawn chemicals, Appel created Malama Aina - a soil conditioner system for Certified Organic food which was originally touted as Pet Friendly Fertilizer in the late 1990s. in the early 2000s, Appel Green Roof was created from the rooftop gardeing aspect of landscape architecture and civil/structural engineering. The 10# per sq ft green roof system saves about 30% off a single story utility bill on day one of the installation. This activity expaned into the practice of architecture with Applejacks Housing Hawaii. Applejacks Housing Hawaii focuses on master planning, sustainaable architecture, large scale residential, tiny houses, emergency shelters and cost effective solutions to the homeless issues plaguing the world. Jennifer's achievements skydiving, as a skydiving coach, racing motorcycles, flying in a MIG 21, climbing the Great Wall of China in mongul territory, sailing as well as travelling about 2/3 of the Earth have led her to the understanding that the person who you need to impress most - is YOURSELF.

Overview
Thank you for giving me this stage.
Oh! What a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive…(Shakespeare)
True statement… but not attributed to the correct author.
Act One
With a broad stroke, I am going to dispel the major lies, obfuscations and myths the media portrayed in this book used to destroy my credibility.
Act Two
I am going to tell you the story of what really happened during our amazing blue water sailing adventure.
Act Three
I will drill down to excavate and expose the details to show you how somebody very powerful, who did not want the public to know the truth, manipulated data and the media to bring the public one of the biggest, globally published false news stories of 2017.
Some apropos introduction music…
…and without further adieu… please allow me to introduce the cast and crew that unwittingly created this theatrical tragedy of errors...
The Actors and The Players: The Cast of the Sea Nymph Saga
Image: Jon Clay, US Navy / Mis-spellings and erroneous image attribution: The Daily Mail.
Canine Crew: Valentine and Zeus, lovingly referred to as the boys.
Love: dolphins, perfectly grilled bone-in steaks, chewing tennis balls, comfy beds with lots of pillows, car rides, sailing, quietly sitting beside me on a plane, playing with each other, running on the beach, bath time and toweling off.
Dislike: shallow mean people.
Born: O’ahu, Hawai’i.
Travel: Hawai’i, sailing about 10,000 blue water miles in the Pacific Ocean, Japan, New York, Texas.
Zeus (now 3 years old) is a brindle pit bull with sharpei fur.
Valentine (also 3 years old) is a marathon-trained, fast visla mix, Hungarian hunting hound, with the Eddie Munster widow’s peak forehead.
Both weigh over 80 pounds, (38kg). Both were rescue animals. Valentine was rescued after being dumped on the North Shore O’ahu windy
road from a car on Valentine’s Day and Zeus from a violent meth head who liked to cut and torture him. Both of them are best friends and brothers from other mothers. Both are registered companion animals. They were wonderful guard dogs for their home, Sea Nymph. During the press onslaught, they were the only friends we had that knew the truth.
The Samoan: Tasha Fuiava, aka Chickbeer
(English translation of her last name).
Loves: 12 hour night watches while sailing, gospel music, manga/manhwa, anime and men.
Dislikes: mean people.
Tasha Fuiava, age 27, a joke-cracking, good person with an all-around excellent ability to remain calm in the face of overwhelming disaster. A college graduate with a degree in marine science who was planning to quit her job as a security guard when I met her in December 2016. We began a conversation when I had my boat hauled out of the water and was working on some final touches and having the rigging re-installed. Tasha started the May journey at nearly 300 pounds. At the end, she had lost over 70 pounds. We both think our diet and exercise program should be considered one of the finest weight loss and muscle building programs on the planet. We certainly have the results to prove it.
Captain and boat owner: Jennifer Appel.
Loves: sailing, skydiving, motorcycle road racing, extreme sports, educated people and men.
Dislikes: what happened (especially to my family) as a result of the media.
Jennifer Appel, age 48, Texas A&M Aggie class of 1991.
Prior to the unacceptable media attention: my name had an alphabet behind it that had the following professional designations: licensed in multiple states as a registered landscape architect, practicing architecture, Texas Licensed Irrigator, Soil Food Web Advisor #2. I had received architectural patents for how to build structures that make their own power and water, green roofs and sustainable agriculture equipment. At one time in my professional career, I created soil microbiology products for healthy soil that doesn’t hurt pets like synthetic chemicals and fertilizers can. In Hawai’i, I was a prior owner of 2 USDA Certified Organic farms proving organic safe food may grow adjacent to Monsanto and Syngenta GMO test fields. I’ve flown in a MIG21, road raced motorcycles at over 200 mph, been skydiving out of 737’s, climbed the Great Wall of China in Mongol territory and keynoted an international conference in Buenos Aires. A pre-2017, five page resume can be found in the Appendix. Now, a current Google search portrays me with incorrectly listed relatives, as a failed actress and inept sailor.
The Media Listed in this Book:
Loves: profitable headlines in lieu of fact checking.
Real Journalists:
Love: uncovering the truth and publishing it, especially when there has been an obvious cover-up.
The tabloids, forums and bloggers… ummm… they get their own scenes.
Fong Chun No66 (Feng Chun No66), a Taiwanese fishing vessel involved in a multi-billion dollar tuna/fishing business:
Loves: Killing beautiful creatures for money. (The money stays with the vessel owner and captain.) To stay alive, the workers do what their captains say, on or off the water. Tasha and I both know first-hand the conditions that long-liner fishermen (mostly human slaves) endure when they can’t leave a boat in dry dock, even to use the bathroom, shower or get fresh food and water.
What I saw onboard the fishing vessel and experienced in the ocean before the Navy arrived, mirrored the sentiments of the worst experiences of National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fishing Observers, some of whom drowned when nobody was around to police the situation. We were lucky – the US Navy came to rescue us – We Lived!
The fishermen must have thought it was their lucky day
when we showed up. They, too, had been out to sea six months.
The US NAVY: I call them Knights With Floating Armor.
Loves: protecting American interests… and what they did for us will make you proud!
Image: US Navy
Dedication
To GOD, the I AM that makes all things possible,
To Tasha, Valentine and Zeus who experienced the journey of a lifetime with me,
To my boyfriend K, Mom, blood relatives and friends who couldn’t handle the media pressure,
This book is further dedicated to the country of Japan, who took us in, and the Quarantine Officials, who like actual sailors with an understanding of how the Pacific Ocean works, saw through the hoax and believed us when everybody else in the world was selling a false news story.
Many Hawaiian Mahalo nui loa
(Thank you nice and long) go out to the crew of the USS Ashland, LSD 48. Without their capable assistance we would not have lived long enough to tell this story.
With unparalleled respect we appreciate the US Coast Guard, Honolulu Sector and Guam Sector for their assistance, strength, passion and dedication to keeping all water travelers safe in the worst of conditions. US Coast Guard Guam realized we were in trouble before we did. Thank you for sending the US Navy to rescue us.
Last but not least, to anyone who is considering suicide because you lost your money, a boy or a girl did something you think you can never get over, someone put something on the internet that you are ashamed or embarrassed about or some other life altering, earth shattering event has occurred and you don’t think that you have the strength to get past it… before you end your life please read what happened to me… I lost almost everything, (my home, my jobs, my businesses, my finances, my family was angry with the situation, my friends, my boyfriend, almost everything I loved), and was HATED by almost everyone in the whole world… because when the facts about the truth were purposely hidden, the press thought I was lying and they wanted to make sure the public thought so, too!
