Thank you for reading my first published e-book, compiling three of my Sci-Fi History articles for North Bay Bohemian in Santa Rosa, California. My articles written for this weekly events magazine emphasized the local angle
of these three sci-fi writers who lived and wrote in Sonoma County, although researching these legendary authors uncovered enough material to start a couple books.
While each article in this Bohemian collection focuses on local connections between these sci-fi writers' lives and their literary works, my ongoing books based on my research will have broader scope:
Frank Herbert wrote for a Sonoma County newspaper before Dune became a best-selling series, and my microfilm research uncovered 138 articles he published there before he became famous. Frank Herbert's Lost Archives, Vol.1: The Santa Rosa Press Democrat 1949–53 compiles his local photojournalism and early writings, but my Archive also shows Herbert's early news articles appearing in his later novels.
Philip K Dick never lived to see his novels and short stories turned into blockbuster sci-fi films. Like Vincent van Gogh, his genius was under-appreciated during his lifetime, and my book about PKD will focus on his posthumous influence on
