It’s an ill wind that carries bad news, and Tori’s just had a double load of it blow through her door.

Just a few weeks after she prevented rogue gods from blowing L.A. into the ocean, more dead bodies are turning up near the leftover crater...bodies that have been shredded by something too big to be, shall we say, of this world. Worse, her Uncle Christos has disappeared after stumbling onto a deadly cult masquerading as the Back-to-Earth movement.

The connection: Dionysus. Yes, that Dionysus. He’s resurrected his bloody fertility rite, complete with frenzied female groupies who tear men limb from limb. And he’s lured Demeter, goddess of the harvest, over to his side by finding a way to get her daughter Persephone away from Hades for good.

Predictably, Hades isn’t about to let Persephone go without a fight. Unless Tori finds a way to bring her back to him, Hades will abandon the gates of Tartarus. At which time all hell will, literally, break loose.

Between saving the world, the woman, the cultists and her crazy uncle, Tori is giving up on getting to the beach before all the good spots are taken.

I found myself hooked when reading The Parlor in the anthology, Kicking It, just a few days ago. I’ve now run through both the first and this second book. I’ve just downloaded the third book and can’t wait to start it. How come I hadn’t heard of this author before?Tori works as a PI and is from a family of circus performers and had been told all her life that she’s got gorgon blood and that the gods from Olympus were living “normal” lives in the here and now since they’re no longer worshipped. She never believed any of it until confronted with it in the first book. With the help of Apollo and hottie detective Nick Armani, they were able to limit the damage done by Zeus, Poseidon and Hephaestus when they attempted to destroy a good chunk of the west coast to regain more of their powers and be worshipped again. But now she’s being blamed by Hades for not stopping all of the damage that was wrought which caused an opening to his realm and his wife, Persephone is now gone. Find her! The FBI/Homeland Security are watching her as unexplainable things tend to happen around her. And on a personal side, her family demands she locate her uncle in time for him to walk Tori’s cousin down the aisle. The PI has been out of touch for 6 months and the lead takes her to even more of the gods.This is a very fast paced story filled with a great deal of drama and action. It’s lightened up by Tori’s sarcastic one-liners as well as the situations she gets in when two hunky men are attracted to her and she’s trying to avoid one of them. It’s also fun to watch her mental and verbal dance when trying to prevent others from learning what’s really going on. You’ll find plenty of mythology in this story and if nothing else you do learn aspects of what many of the gods are known for. I love the world, characters and situations created for this story.
