- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5"Our Dark Duet" is exactly how a final book should be. It doesn't try to wrap everything up neatly. It's ruthless, but full of hope.
I highly recommend the Monsters of Verity series, as I believe it explores the duality between monsters and humanity in a really interesting way. Not necessarily original, but definitely interesting.
I am also glad that, from all the Victoria Schwab books I want to read, this duology was the one I picked up first, as I really enjoyed the writing and made me want to read more of her stories. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It's not bad, it's written beautifully. Let me begin with that. But... It lacked something.
It lacked a bit of continuation from the last book. The time jump seems sort of logical, but also very sudden. What happened up to the point of the story was described really fast and I think it had made more sense if that part was also told.
What also lacked was my love for the characters. In the first book, I was very intrigued by them both.. But in this book, it didn't feel the same. The characters weren't what drove the story, the story drove them. They were following the plot, not making it.
I really wanted to love this more. The world is awesome and the creativity around it is beautiful. Unfortunately, I can't give this more than 3 stars.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Although I enjoyed this book for the characters from Savage Song, I felt there was something lacking here. I still wanted to read every page and struggle to put it down but the ending certainly felt rushed and what I thought was going to be a glorious monstrous climax was over in the blip of a second. It was nice to see some new character development and struggles, I wish we had got to know some of the new characters a bit more and I wish that a certain red head hadn't been so much of a Chekhov's gun type situation... we are told about this awesome power and yet we never get to see it. The "loss" of her power was frustrating as a reader and when she goes dark we never get to see just how much strength she has.
Overall enjoyable, but Savage Song was superier to its sequel in my opinion.1 person found this helpful
