About this ebook
A series of Cuban impressions (notes, journals, blogs, and musings) from a rum-soaked adventure in rum-soaked Cuba - land of stunning beaches and valleys, of art, music, and dance, of trains, planes, and endless types of transportation, of casas and food, Havana, and Hemingway...and Mothers Day.
Whether you're going soon or are an armchair vagabond, enjoy facts and personal vignettes about this beautiful, forbidden island.
Karen Jeffery
Friends think of Karen as a travel guru. She thinks of herself as an adventure junkie. Whatever...she loves being on the road, tasting new cultures, new experiences, art, food. As a passionate entrepreneur, she created several businesses on the US mainland, in Hawaii and the South Pacific, for many years brokering private islands and boutique resorts. Today she writes a regular newspaper column, freelances for many companies and publications, and publishes photography books, cookbooks, and novels. Traveling to over 90 islands and 60 countries, she has tales to tell. Stories from magical places pepper her writings, which are autobiographically inspired and informed. Visit One Foot Island and Saturday markets; watch quick-hipped dancers, hear tribal drums, feast on coconut cuisine and taste the essence of island places, island lives. "Life's a trip...so get out there and enjoy this bright, beautiful planet."

With gratitude and love for my three children. For my birth family, my created family, and my global family...for all my friends the world over and all the islands and islanders I have loved like family.
To all the beautiful souls I met in Cuba who opened their hearts and homes and showed me different ways of living and caring.
Thanks to the activists I've known throughout the years and the occupiers, hactavists, and peace pilgrims who inspire me to this day to seek a better world for all of us.
Deep Mahalos and respect to all the writers I’ve read and enjoyed. To Jason and Vanessa, my editors at both Ashland Free Press and the Rogue Valley Community Press. To all the other editors who have encouraged me as a freelance artist. To the Independent Media Group who honored me with the Hal Jameson Award last year.
And to friends and family over the years who always encouraged my writing...and my wanderlust.
Bless you all.
Always,
For my three precious ones:
Julie, Peter, and Jeremy

About the Author
Author Notes
This was written as a journal and blog.
May it serve as a brief introduction to this beautiful country and her even more beautiful people.
Cuba is a moving train, and with Obama's loosening of the embargo and Trump's tightening it, hopefully Americans will see how political and ridiculous our policy is towards this exceptional country.
Regardless, may the charm and spirit of Cuba endure.

CUBA NOTES
(aka my own rum diaries)
a multi-part series of Cuba impressions
CUBA BOUND
I'm not sure exactly what it was...or when it started, but suddenly in the middle of winter in my small Oregon town, I realize that Cuba has been on my bucket list for far too long. Like Greece (back in high school), Cuba called.
