About this ebook

A Collection of Short Stories by Timothy Trimble

Sci-fi & Fantasy Stories

22K Words

Why Undiscovered? Well, aside from the web-based audience who have seen these stories at various locations, there has not been a way to see the full compilation of the stories I have exposed to the world. As a whole, they are undiscovered.

A Peek at the Author, Timothy Trimble

These stories uncover a part of me as a writer. For the Zegin’s Adventures stories and the Air Born series, I fully map out the story, its background, characters, and universe before I actually sit down and do the real writing. With the short stories, I take a totally different approach.

I’m always getting flooded with ideas. Some good, some not so good, and some are crazy exciting. When I get an idea for a story, I usually know right away if it’s a complex tale which needs to be fully mapped out, or if it’s to be a fanciful quest of discovery without knowing where it will lead me. These stories are those quests.

The spark of ideas sometimes come from observation. Examination of animal life and wondering what would happen if they were just a little smarter - Squirrels With Guns. Some are ponderings about a historical genius with a twist of steampunk - The Wings of Leonardo. Others touch the concept of the difference between death or fading away - Invis. Sometimes I just need a way to vent my anger and frustrations with real life and the pain it brings to friends - Touched. And there is the fascination with time and portals to other universes - The Pendant and Jezi’s Dilemma. My relationships with friends and associates who are autistic became the source for my desire to do research and mix in my interest in quantum entanglement - Meghan’s Crayons.

Overall, Undiscovered provides me a vehicle for exposing me, my ideas, my inner being, and my quests as a writer. It is my hope these tales bring you as much joy in reading as they have brought me in writing them.

Enjoy the quests!

Timothy Trimble

I'm a published author, freelance writer, technologist, and software developer - basically, a geek who likes to write. I've written books for Microsoft Press, Wiley Publications, user guides, and more articles than I can count on all my digits. While the non-fiction writing has been great, my heart lies in the telling of science fiction and urban fantasy stories. I've met Captain Kirk, taught Harry Anderson (Night Court) how to fly in Flight Simulator, been in front of the TV camera four times, and played in an awesome band at the House of Blues. I'm a "creative" who just wants to share my stories with the world and hopefully find a way to make a living out of it. My Zegin's Adventures stories are popular ebook and print releases on Amazon, and my latest full-length, romantic, sci-fi/urban fantasy novel, Air Born, is receiving glowing reviews (and awesome book selfie pictures) from around the world. Due to the clamoring of the loving fans and readers, my current focus for writing is Air Storm - the second book in the Air Born series. I live in the Pacific Northwest, where the prevalence of coffee shops and hiking trails contribute to my inspiration. Aside from telling stories, I dabble in all sorts of computer technologies, I'm a public speaker and a promoter of effective life goals. I try to be insightful, but usually end up being humorous as I mumble here and on social media. If you're fortunate, you might find me planting an autographed book at a random location, or just handing one to a random person who likes to read.

    The Wings of Leonardo

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had a fascination with Leonardo di Vinci. He was truly a genius and a creative who always sought to learn more. A common thread with many of my stories is the question, What if? What if Leonardo could see into the future? What if he could find out how his inventions were going to be put to use? What if I could write something with a bit of a steampunk feel?

    ***

Francesco stood on the very edge of the cliff, his arms spread wide, and his eyes open as wide as the distant sun above the horizon.  The winds from the ocean washed over him with a constant intensity.  He imagined his feet being lifted off the surface of the earth, becoming one with the wind, able to soar among the seagulls, which seemed to laugh at this wingless human - stuck to the ground.  He leaned slightly forward, letting the wind hold him back from the grip of gravity.

Leonardo grabbed Francesco by the back of his shirt, pulling him away from the precarious edge of the cliff. Are you crazy? Leonardo exclaimed.  If there was a pause in the wind you would surely be splattered on the rocks below, like the droppings from one of those birds.

I could feel it, Leonardo, Francesco replied excitedly.  I know we were meant to fly.  It's in my blood.  I can feel it in the depths of my heart, he stated while pounding on his chest.

Yes, yes, Leonardo responded, placing his hand on Francesco's shoulder.  I know how much you want to do this.  But it's not ready!  I still have much work to do, and with the tasks assigned to me by Cesare..., he shook his head.  I just don't know when I'll find the time.  He hated to discourage Francesco but he knew he needed to check the future validity of his new invention before allowing it to be used.

Francesco shrugged his shoulders.  Yes, my head knows that you are right.  My heart, however, wishes to fly, he sighed.  This is why you are good for me Leonardo.  You keep me grounded when my head is in the clouds, he laughed.

Leonardo laughed along.  Come, come, my young seagull apprentice.  We must return to Milan, for there is much work to be done.  Quietly, he added out of earshot of Francesco, Plus I need the forces of a good storm to allow me to see where this is going.

    -----

Leonardo double checked the terrain around him to make sure there were no curious onlookers to see him at his work.  He hated to be out in the open like this, but he knew it was the only way to
