About this ebook
In a remote Hertfordshire village, far off the good coach roads of George III's England, a country squire of no great means must marry off his five vivacious daughters. At the heart of this all-consuming enterprise are his headstrong second daughter Elizabeth Bennet and her aristocratic suitor Fitzwilliam Darcy — two lovers whose pride must be humbled and prejudices dissolved before the novel can come to its splendid conclusion.

Jane Austen
Born in 1775, Jane Austen published four of her six novels anonymously. Her work was not widely read until the late nineteenth century, and her fame grew from then on. Known for her wit and sharp insight into social conventions, her novels about love, relationships, and society are more popular year after year. She has earned a place in history as one of the most cherished writers of English literature.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I try to write a review of each book I read or reread since joining LT. But, really, what can I say that hasn't already been said somewhere else about this book? You either like Austen or you don't and nothing I say will make a difference.Flo Gibson is an excellent reader, by the way.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It's a classic, but they are a bit hard to read because of the different style of writing back then and the word choices. This, of course, is still a good book. Not my usual page-turner choices, but a good book to read to see where things came from and to glimpse the time period--a romance and a statement of how things were.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5As expected, back for more Austen, and once again I wasn't disappointed. Her writing is so vastly different from much of the rest of what's being produced during this period, it makes for remarkably diverting reading. Great fun, and I'm glad I was able to easily snag a full set, so I can dip in and out whenever I like now.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Another disappointment. Don't get me wrong, it's a great story. In fact, it's one of my favorite love stories. However, all the romance happened IN the dialogue when I personally prefer the unspoken gestures.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is most likely my favorite book. Jane Austin rocks!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5As a French major in college, I never got around to reading many of the English or American classics. Audiobooks are providing a way to go back and catch up on titles I never read.Thoroughly enjoyable story about Lizzie and her four sisters whose main purpose in life is to find a suitable husband. While set during the early 1800s, the themes of the story stand up over time and the character of Lizzie is superb. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to listening to other titles by Austen.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Where do I begin?
I first read this amazing book in high school. I so fell in love with Jane Austen that I proceded to read all of her books that I could get my hands on.
I should probably read it once a year.
Jane Austen is a true inspiration. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Obviously the language is dated and heavy on narrative. Structurally, it's an excellent example of a 3-act play with multiple plot lines and surprising twists.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5If you haven't watched the movie yet I strictly recommend you read this book first, because it is more entertaining than the movie! Genius observer, this auther Jane Austen!Obviously, it was not easy to marry for love AND for fortune. The mother of the five sisters uses all kinds of tricky words to convince them to marry someone rich. But the girls have their own philosophy - unusual for that time! Very vivid, humorous conversation.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Although I definitely found this rather tedious at times, there is no doubt that this is a good book and deserves to be a classic. The characters are wonderfully developed and the scenery is perfect, but I just could not get into the bourgeois society's ideologies.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I gave a 3 due to the story cause it was just a simple love story set among rich people blah blah blah; I’ve been recently watching Downton Abbey set 100 years later and not much has changed; the writing itself however is excellent in itself; it would be awesome to see modern story writers use language so effectively like Austen, Shelly, Hugo, or Wells.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Just delightful. =)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5strong willed and spunky elizabeth bennet is pursued by a man she has sworn to loathe for all eternity, eventually realizing that maybe she does not loathe him so much
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I absolutely adore Pride and Prejudice. Probably the easiest to read out of all the classics because the language is very accessible. Lizzie is one of the strongest characters I've ever come across, and I love the transformation of Mr. Darcy throughout the book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I am most highly gratified. Miss Austen is highly accomplished and her superior writing has exceeded my expectations of felicity. I can no longer dissemble and leave my most sincere approbation.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Oh Pride and Prejudice. I was shocked when my favorite (male) college professor opined that it is the best novel ever written in the English language, but now I'm close to agreeing. Nearly every woman I know, and many of the men, have a "thing" for Fitzwilliam "Mr." Darcy. I'm not quite sure why that is, but I am not immune.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Witty and charming look at romance and mores of the 19th century. Classic masterpiece. Not to be missed.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Favourite classic. Tea and scones novel
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Still my absolute favorite. As cliche as that might be. I used to reread this annually but these days I just don't have the time. Still, I find new layers on each reading. I think the letter from Darcy to Elizabeth, where he defends himself against her accusations, is one of my favorite sections is all of literature. And I still reread that, even when I don't have time for the entire book. This is my pretty hardcover version. But I think I might have about five copies total at this point.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5After hearing that this book was great, and feeling behind, I decided to check it out. I liked it, but still think it overrated. Some parts I found funny, but for the most part it was just annoying how the littlest things were thought to be such a big deal (ie being introducted to somebody). I did, however, find the relationship between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth quite charming. A lot of the characters annoyed me, but it was in a 'love to hate' way.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The classic romance novel, this book was highly entertaining, though I did find the first few chapters a bit dull. However, it is a must read and it guarantees delight to every reader.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I struggled a bit through this book. I know it's a favorite among many, but I had a hard time working around the difference in how they spoke back then. Once I was able to get around that and actually get into the story itself, I found I really enjoyed it. I'm glad I've not seen any film adaptations of the original yet, I am looking forward to doing so now. I think fans of historical romance, or classics would really enjoy this book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5My favorite Jane Austen novel by far. The first time I read this I absolutely couldn't put the book down. I fell in love with all the characters, even Mr. Wickham and Lydia. I would and have recommended this book to friends and family. A great read for teens and adults alike.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is such a comfort read for me that I could not possibly review it objectively. I love it without reservation. Why didn't it get five stars? I'm saving them for Emma.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Although it is hard for most people to read, Pride & Prejudice is a great romance... A Great classic, it is rich in language and plot...and don't forget the strange words that no one can understand!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I fell in love with this book immediately. It was my first Austen, and really my first introduction to this type of novel. How could I have waited so long?! Beautifully written and captivating, I couldn't put it down. Elizabeth's and Mr. Darcy's relationship is so true-to-life that anyone can relate to it. This book made me fall in love not only with the characters, but with the time period. I look forward to many future re-readings!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is my favorite Austen book. The strength and grace of the characters, the betrayal and hope make a fabulous romance. Read the book, skip the movies!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Hands down, the single finest novel ever written and, also hands down, my personal favorite. All things are delicious here, but the relationship between Elizabeth and her father especially so. When discussing the lamentable Mr. Collins, Elizabeth reads out loud to her father his presumptuous and ludicrous letter. Elizabeth pauses and asks her father, "Do you think him a fool?" "I hope so," my dear, "and have great anticipation of his company." It does not get better.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Jane Austen is the best ever!! And this is my favorite of her novels. I've lost track of how many times I've read it. It never loses its appeal.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Pride and Prejudice the best known of Austen's novels details the antics of the Bennett sisters and their quest for love and security. Their mother is anxious to see them married to suitable partners and works tirelessly to this end. Their are some really humorous characters and scenes in this book as well as some passionate and tragic scenes. Austen delves into the many emotions that accompany human interactions in the 19th century.
