Reviews for Watching the Door
1 rating1 review
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the most authentic, gripping, humorous, and compelling first-hand, essentially non-partisan and unbiased accounts of the Troubles I have read - out of at least two dozen such titles. The vantage point is necessarily limited, as this is the experience of a single man who was in the region for only a small portion of the conflict, and of course, paramilitaries aren't particularly open to having their more important operations, procedures, and tactics revealed in print. But what it lacks in big picture, historical wide-view scope and painstakingly arranged leaks from informants, it more than makes up for in raw, intensely human realism and emotion. An absolute must read for anyone interested in the topic.
