Rare Species

About this ebook
Rare Species is an apocalyptic sci-fi thriller set in the near future of 2040. The unchecked advances of technology have resulted in the creation of Shiva, the first evolving cyborg, and two earlier twin prototypes known as Dee and Dum. Shiva and the twins intend to design a new planet that does not require humans. This terraforming of the natural world is joined with their genetic tampering of animal and plant life. Chaos and conflict arise in a variety of settings. Nations are dissolved, and survivors are left to cope with the very real threat of extinction. The elites of the earth have fled to the space stations of High Wire far above the planet. They are determined to begin a final exodus to deep space and have turned their backs on humanity. A cult of Highwaymen takes to the roads and byways to oppose Shiva and High Wire. Earth and near space have become battlegrounds with no quarter given.
Rare Species (Tilted Earth: Book 1) is the first of a three-book series that reads like a non-stop race to the finish line of resolution. Artificial intelligence, unlimited wealth and power, and the resistance of ordinary humans clash in a life and death struggle. The outcome of this titanic struggle shall decide humanity's fate. Will mankind endure in a tilted world of AI inspired chaos or become the last of a rare species?
Daniel Campagna
My name is Daniel S. Campagna. I am a widely published author in various genres dating back to the 1970’s. My most recent fiction book, Rare Species, is the first in the new “Tilted World” series set in the very near future of 2020 when humanity’s grasp for immortality in the shape of an evolving AI goes horribly awry. Book Two of the Tilted World will is slated for released in the fall, 2017. I am particularly proud of two stepping stones in my writing journey. The first – Frederick Douglass, An American Slave – is a one-act, one-man play that opened to multiple venues dating back to the 1980’s and culminating in a command performance at the Douglass home in Washington, D.C. The second – The Sexual Trafficking in Children – was the culmination of eight years of field research with a colleague into the underground markets of child exploitation. My writing is driven by curiosity. The style is acerbic, and few things, events, or people are taboo topics to me. More recent publications include a very blunt assessment of crime and justice – Injustice in America – and Online Education Courses. I received a Ph.D. in Political Science & Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia. Life experiences along the way have been eclectic; they include, among others, a stint as a pro basketball player in Europe, the mayor of Canton, Missouri, world traveler, special criminal investigator, international expert on child trafficking, three-times tenured professor, fast-order chef, juvenile delinquent, and guest speaker on numerous media outlets from Oprah to BBC World News to National Public Radio. It has been quite a ride thus far.
