About this ebook

Ever look at an NFL Draft guide and not know where to start?

We know the feeling! That's why myself (Joe Kuzma) and Brian E. Roach joined forces to break down the 2017 NFL Draft in a meaningful resource that's important to Pittsburgh Steelers fans. Now that's not to say this book wouldn't be helpful for fans of the league's other 31 teams: however, our focus and a consistent theme throughout this guide was to examine players who best fit the Steelers system.

Last year we had produced a similar Steel City Underground "Draft Preview" which detailed the each official visit a prospect had with the Steelers. Each NFL team is permitted 30 individual visits. However, with the majority of those visits following various combines and pro days, we would never have enough time to publish this book. Therefore we decided to profile players who interviewed or met with members of the Steelers staff at the NFL Scouting Combine, Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Game.

In many cases, those interviews overlap with official visits, therefore, the guide has expanded drastically from the 30 prospect profiled last year. While every draft-eligible player isn't outlined in this publication, we went above and beyond the initial meetings and interviews at those three events: over 170 NFL hopefuls are detailed within these pages complete with stats, analytics, rankings and detailed analysis on the Steelers draft plans.

Welcome to an in-depth look at the NFL Draft from the Pittsburgh Steelers' perspective

In many cases, those interviews overlap with official visits, therefore, the guide has expanded drastically from the 30 players profiled last year. For example, NFL franchises are allowed to interview a maximum of 60 players at the Scouting Combine.

But we didn't stop there. While every draft-eligible player isn't outlined in this publication, we went above and beyond the initial 63 meetings and interviews at those three events: over 170 NFL hopefuls are detailed within these pages.

However, the meetings, interviews, and visits are the meat of the Steelers draft preparations. Typically, when the Steelers invite a player for a pre-draft visit, it's likely they are high on the team's draft board. And more often than not, they end up on the roster. Some players that have had official visits in the past include Senquez Golson, Sammie Coates, Doran Grant, Ryan Shazier, Stephon Tuitt, Martavis Bryant, Jarvis Jones, Vince Williams, Kelvin Beachum, Marcus Gilbert, Maurkice Pouncey, Emmanuel Sanders, and Antonio Brown. Sean Davis, Javon Hargrave and Jerald Hawkins were among those who met with Pittsburgh last year and were selected in the 2016 NFL Draft.
