It would be unfair to give this anything other than a neutral three stars. There is nothing particularly wrong with it. The story is interesting. The problem I had with it was that the style of the narrative didn't appeal to me. I would advise readers to try to access a sample first.

This had the potential of being an interesting bildungsroman, but the author is/got hung up on making some sort of statement about uses of marijuana, or hemp; environmental causes, animal rights and apparently whatever else his friends and editors felt would sell the novel. From the plot you could easily assume him to be a black-belt conspiracy theorist advocating environmental terrorism, and while some of what is held in favor may counterbalance the extremes of the opposite faction, in fact, extremism accomplishes nothing but nourishment of hatred.Oh well, now that I've vented I did read the whole book, found it entertaining in part, disturbing in others, and concluded wishing that the author had concentrated on his main character, rather than the varied and various causes with which he's so enamored. My thanks to ER, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to learn about them by reading their work.
