"Once, long ago, when the land was torn from endless racial wars and soaked in blood, the Deities, creators of everything gathered in the Sky Palace and decided this could go no longer. Their living creations had evolved and now had desires and reasons to exist. The dwarves wanted the mountains, to dig the valuable minerals; the elves wanted the green forests, trolls wanted the caves, dragons wanted to fly free, humans wanted the vast grasslands, where they could build their cities. The boundaries of their self-claimed lands pushed against one another and the creatures could not find peace in their existence.
The deities talked, and talked, and talked. They did not want to interfere, because they knew the only option to interfere would be to purge, to destroy their own creations. Instead, it was decided they were going to join forces and create a new race, superior to the rest; a race to watch over the peace and to serve the others. They would call them Guardians.
On the day decided the deities gathered in their Council among the clouds and prepared for the ritual.
