Introduction
Very many things about which we write now became clear to us far not at once, sometimes in years after some first impulse. What the impulse was, it is difficult to explain, but as a rule everything began with vague feeling: awkwardness, concern, internal protest... Logically we couldn't prove this discomfort, and in a case about which we will tell now, even first were ashamed of the negative reaction.
Unusual congress
In the summer of 1994, having arrived to the international congress on social psychiatry to Hamburg, we saw a strange picture: noticeable number of delegates of the congress looked as the insane.
It is surprising! Why the western doctors are so similar to the patients?
- we thought.
But soon it became clear that it is natural patients. We were surprised again: how it is possible to show sick people to the huge hall as if animals in circus?
The western colleagues indulgently smiled to stereotype of our thinking and explained that we are witnesses of the greatest humanistic experiment. For the first time on the scientific congress patients of psychiatric clinics including suffering from deep frustration, will do reports on an equal basis with coryphaeuses of medicine. And they really did them, alternating detailed descriptions of nonsense and hallucinations with furious criticism of doctors and methods of treatment, and also demanding for itself the right for driving of the car, for work in court and other authorities. The behavior of doctors too, however, was for us unusual. All of them time chewed something, drank water from small bottles, loudly exchanged words, got up in the middle of performances - even when the report was done by the scientist with a world name! - and jambs left the hall. Lines for coffee and sandwiches in working hours and in breaks were almost identical. Listening to performances of patients, doctors for some reason had very much fun. So preschool children and younger school students laugh, looking at the clowns belaboring each other inflatable hammers. Similar tactlessness was contrary to our ideas of medical ethics, but we and it wrote off for sovok stereotype.
In the last day there was something unimaginable at all. Patients on whom all this unusual situation acted excitingly rastormozitsya absolutely and already without invitation in bulk have tumbled down on the stage, trying to seize upon the microphone. The Indian with a black flowing hair, in a bright exotic dress howled, swinging hands which all from shoulders to wrists have been covered with the sparkling bracelets. So, probably, neistovstvat ancient pifiya, falling into ecstasy. Other, local patient (more true, the client - on the congress the humiliated position was much said about what for reasons of political correctness of patients it is impossible to call now patients as it puts them in subordinated, so) shouted that to him in Germany is close, there isn't enough freedom. Also threatened to run away to a pampas. And then, having cut itself
