About this ebook
Known scoundrel Jack Avery, “Jacko” must earn the queen’s forgiveness by rescuing her missing daughter from the human world. His sources reveal Princess Noelani is being held by a powerful governor who likes a good game of chance. With twenty borrowed pieces of gold, Jack enters a high-stakes game. Only the lady he encounters is no princess. This pretty Kitty makes him want to hear her purr, but upped the risk of facing certain death for his sins.
Under a memory spell, Kitty recalls nothing before a tormentor bought her and offered protection from assassins who would kill her for being a shapeshifter. But he enjoys demanding she morph, then refuses to allow her the sexual release she needs after transformation. However, the crafty card player she’s assigned to “entertain” reveals himself as a kindred spirit—a shapeshifter—and unravels the lies she’s forced to endure.
Together, Jack and Kitty risk it all. The prize is freedom, forgiveness, and love. However, the price of failure... death.

Letter to my readers:
Dear reader,
First, thank you for your love and devotion over the years. You may have noticed. I haven’t released a new book in some time. This wasn’t because I didn’t have stories to write. No, it was more because the characters in my books wanted fuller stories.
Having a love affair with each of my characters, I couldn’t silence their chatter. They wanted their stories told in a deeper, more satisfying way. To silence them, I’ve worked to learn more about my craft to bring their stories alive.
Now the painful part, I want to make sure no one reads my stories in my old voice, so I am removing all my books from every retail site.
The good news is I plan to re-release a new rewritten story each month for the next few years.
So let the fun begin.
All the best,
Anita

Chapter One
Inside a sacred circle, rose petals dotted the wooden floor, adding energy to the scrying tool. Entranced by the images floating across the still water, a cloaked figure relived events of the past. The scoundrel in question was conceived by an act of adultery. The pain of which took a life and cloaked the child in darkness because of the treachery of his parent’s affair.
Caressing a charmed talisman, the witch relived the boy’s growth, learning of his heartache at his father’s death and of his mother’s desertion. Only the kindness of one of his own offered a chance at redemption.
"Birth might cloak you in forever darkness, leaving you stained by corruption," hissed from the witch’s lips, creating a gentle breeze. But one man will not leave your redemption in question.
The petals wavered, gaining flight as the witch’s psychic power grew.
Visions of the future flashed over the still water, revealing the scoundrel’s entrance into a woman’s life. Bound as sisters, salvation for the innocent lay in the hands of the cursed.
****
Banished for his dishonorable behavior, his life changed.
Forever darkness…. stained by corruption… redemption in question.
The unexpected incantation pulsed through Jack Avery. A brewing adventure to win his ultimate prize, regaining access to his homeland, bubbled his stomach with nerves in a cauldron of excitement. The dark, shady skills he’d gained as a scoundrel would serve him well at achieving his goal, kidnapping a princess.
This scam needs a different persona to gain entrance into this elite game of thieves. Best to play the part right… as a true asshole.
Fighting a smirk, he shrugged his cloak off, allowing it to fall to the respectful butler stationed by the elegant entrance. Acting indifferent, he turned without a nod or word of gratitude, following the favored treatment of the snooty rich. The somewhat timid man folded the coat over his arm and bowed in an elegant dip of subservience.
Ornate tapestries adorned the polished oak walls leading to the parlor. Once inside the grand room, he marveled at the huge granite fireplace before eyeing the rich fabric framing the crystal windows. The colors shimmering through displayed the battle of the red lunar brute in the west as it fought to overtake the glowing cherub in the east. The half circle on the horizon proclaimed its impending escape.
Designed to entertain Governor Cedric Sloan’s wealthy guests, the room held a treasure-trove of expensive artifacts—a silver dwarf’s snuffbox, a giant’s ale cup, and a wizard’s gold-plated wand, just to name a few. Calculating their value, his fingers itched to pilfer one or two, but he squelched the idea. His thieving skills would have to rest for the next few days. Other objectives at this party reigned supreme.
I get to drink expensive wine, eat succulent food, and enjoy the favors of the man’s prize wenches. All part of the benefits of attending his host’s high-priced game and a generous consolation for the losers.
Confident of a victory, he smiled. This is a real step up from my normal life.
A musical laugh rang out, drawing his attention to the fireplace where a petite young woman stood, the top of her head barely reaching the man’s shoulders beside her. Encased in a red silk gown, her willowy form revealed voluptuous breasts that drew a man’s gaze to her narrow waist and down over the flare of seductive hips exactly wide enough to fill a man’s lap as she rode his cock.
The provocative notion of her naked body straddling his helped eased the tension building in his stomach. Sex always helped him relax. And this woman, he felt sure, would easily soothe his primal nature. Then, as if she’d read his thoughts, her succulent brown eyes met his. Interest sparked in hers, prompting him to give a nod of greeting. With an alluring shrug, she turned to the man beside her, giving him her undivided attention.
Determine to confirm the lady’s identity, he glanced at the other women in the room. None met the description he’d been given of Noelani. Again, his eyes landed on the regal tilt of the woman’s head as she stood near the fireplace. Turning with a smile, she sauntered toward him. The graceful sway of her hips incited other fantasies, ones of intoxicating pleasures.
She, alone, had to be the princess.
In her early twenties.
Petite with light brown hair.
Thrilled with the real prize standing before him in her royal glory, he released the doubts pinging his thoughts since starting this dubious adventure.
Can I get you a drink?
Her lyrical tone tickled his senses, proposing a feast of other delights.
Recalling his role in this game, he nodded, accepting the words at face value. That’d be a welcome treat after the dusty roads I’ve traveled.
Offering his best smile, he studied the lady’s perfect features. If she was Kesia’s sister, all his troubles would be over. And the next few moments were crucial to gain her trust. According to his informants, if she selected him as her partner for the duration of the party, his plan for their escape would be that much easier.
Smile beaming, the lady stepped closer. The sweet fragrance of honeysuckles filtered through his senses. Did she crush the delicate petals against her skin or
