    The sign on the door swings back and forth in the air-conditioned lobby; the arc of its enthusiastic movement slows even as I thumb the lock and stand a moment in the light of the blazing summer sun, watching the small crowd that was gathering in the parking lot. Word travels fast in a small town and this time was no exception. I wonder idly why that is when no one here has had use of any device to do as much as text with.

    I slide the flat of my palm along my right hip, smoothing the self-conscious wrinkles that my hand was sure were there.  A thirty-pound weight loss in recent months has left my confidence sobbing on the floor where I would rather be myself.

    What a bunch of trained monkeys, I reflect, observing the awkward wiggle-walk of an o-so-mature teenage girl with rather large breasts and a vacant, come-hither stare.  The three suited men standing across from her ogle her nubile young curves and their piggish behaviour catches my eye.  She leans against the front panel of my sweet Cherry Red Cuda and the sight of the keys hanging from her belt loops scraping against the paint makes me want to rip the little bitch's throat out. Soon enough and if I was lucky, I would obliterate the little snatch and teach her a lesson about respect.

    Someone behind me thumps in the quiet and the noise startles me back from my murderous plotting.  A small silent crowd rustles like blackbirds on a branch, waiting. For my next move.  The air feels thin as my hand becomes sweat slick and the
