Her life has not been so bad really, she thought as she made her way slowly out of the new shopping mall and into the bright early evening sunlight. She smiled wistfully as she remembered when she and Paul had moved out here, all those years ago, out of the city with all its noise and bustle. As she squinted against the sun, looking for her car, she accepted that Progress had followed closely behind them, swallowing up the leafy villages that had once been a haven for growing families like her own. This car park had used to be a quaint little street, famous for it’s abundance of sweet-smelling florists which had so amiably co-existed for many years.
Still, in those days she would never have been able to buy out of season fruit and vegetables
