My Perfect Career - Thesious Marufu

    FOREWORD…..TLHAKISETSO…..ISANDULELISO

The maxim Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam was originally used by the Jesuits of St Ignatius of Loyola in Spain. It signified their total submission to the service of God; the God revealed to us by His Son, Lord Jesus Christ. I adopted this maxim as the theme of thirty tunes contained in this songbook or hymnal. Truly, our moments of joy, success, achievement, elevation, as well as those of sorrow, bitterness and humiliation, even the occurrence of death in one’s family, community or organisation, should be offered as acts of worship to God, by singing, extolling His greatness, mercy and generosity towards us, His humble creatures.

Songs and hymns from this collection, therefore, may be used at family meetings, at larger social gatherings, at various celebrations such as baptisms, weddings, graduations, at funerals and in church services. I have put words like wedding, Xmas, Easter, funerals, etc in brackets next to the titles of some of the tunes merely to guide the user. This kind of categorisation is in no way intended to restrict the preferences of the individual. The verses rendered, variably in English, Sesotho, Zulu, Xhosa and Afrikaans, attest to my recognition and admiration of the multi-lingual nature of the Southern African society. I wish I had captured all eleven official languages of South Africa! And, if music be the food of love, this food needs a bit of spice. I have effected this by inclusion of four popular Latin hymns, namely, Tantum Ergo, Regina Caeli Laetare (ithabele mofumahali oa leholimo), Adeste Fideles (Wozani Makholwa) and Tota
