About this ebook

Imam Ibne Taymiyyah was a scholar, a preacher, and also a warrior. He lived in the tumultuous times of the Mongol invasion, when the Muslims faced unprecedented challenges. A man of extraordinary intelligence and a master of multiple fields of knowledge of his time, he was immensely popular among both the common people and the academics for his wisdom and insight. His main area of expertise was religious sciences and he taught for over 15 years in peace. After the Mongol invasions, he also became a key player in the resistance against them. After the Mongols had been defeated, he was imprisoned several times for his literary opinions which often conflicted with the scholars of the time. He eventually died in jail, leaving behind an inspirational legacy of steadfastness in the face of calamities and opposition.

    Foreword

All praise is for Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

This booklet is eleventh in a series, translated from a book compiled on Muslim heroes by my dear friend Naima Sohaib. The selection includes Muslim scholars, philosophers, reformers and military generals. It tells us about these unique individuals who selflessly worked for the cause of Islam. I hope that Muslims today will find their stories a source of inspiration, guidance and action.

This booklet is about Imam Ibne Taymiyyah – a unique individual who lived in tumultuous times in which Muslims faced unprecedented challenges. However, he remained steadfast and fought on all fronts to defend the purity of Islam and the supremacy of Quran and Sunnah. His intolerance of any view against Quran and Sunnah led him into trouble with the state and he was imprisoned many times.

Imam Ibne Taymiyyah was a man of extraordinary intelligence who mastered every field of knowledge and science of his time. His amazing power of retention was matchless among his contemporaries. He wrote numerous books on various subjects.

Every facet of his personality is a source of inspiration especially for Muslims of today who need to remain steadfast in the face of calamities and opposition from the critics of Islam.

May Allah reward Naima Sohaib for her constant encouragement and support and Sohaib Umar for patiently editing this piece of work.
