About this ebook
Sarnac is a scientist and a leading figure in the field of chemical reactions of cells. Plagued by a beautiful and terrifying dream he had when he was a young child, he reflects on his early years in an attempt to understand the dream's roots. However, he finds that his dreams and the reality he has lived have become so entangled that he is no longer able to distinguish between them. H G Wells' "The Dream" is a profound and magical childhood romance highly recommended for all lovers of the English language. Herbert George Wells (1866 - 1946) was a prolific English writer who wrote in a variety of genres, including the novel, politics, history, and social commentary. Today, he is perhaps best remembered for his contributions to the science fiction genre thanks to such novels as "The Time Machine" (1895), "The Invisible Man" (1897), and "The War of the Worlds" (1898). Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this book now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5At the most basic level this is the story of a race of people living over two thousand years in the future. They live perfect and untroubled lives in supreme harmony. One of these beings, known as Sarnac, tells a group of his companions of his dream. Although this dream was contained within the space of a normal night span,it covered a whole life in the dream itself. He tells the group that in his dream he was living two thousand years ago as Harry Mortimer Smith. He describes the life of his other self from childhood to death in great detail for them. In fact the main body of the story takes place in the world just before the Great War of 1914-1918.Wells cleverly combines social comment with fantastic storytelling in this largely forgotten and underrated book.
