- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is the first book by Jeanette Windle that I have read. I love how clean her writing is, and how she puts the reader right there. It's a little more action than I like, and the writing wasn't as tight as I like, but overall I liked it. The story was great!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5One might look at the book and see over 600 pages and think they couldn't read it. But it really goes by fast and by the time you are done you feel you know the country, the people and the culture. You have lived the story. There were places where I couldn't read fast enough to see what was going to happen next. It is filled with intrigue and suspense. It is a story of a wealthy and very influential family in Bolivia, South America. Nicolas, the son, has come to America for schooling. Here he finds Sara, a lonely yet lovely young lady who falls madly in love with Nicolas and very soon they marry and she finds herself in Bolivia, trying to adjust to the culture and the Cortez family, who aren't pleased with Nicolas bringing home an "americano" wife. When Sara meets Doug, a DEA agent, she finds she doesn't care for this guy who is falsely accusing her husband and his family of being drug cartels. But when she finds out how wrong she is about her new family, the danger becomes very real for her. The story really keeps you in suspense and I enjoyed it very much! I feel like the author really knew the people and the country she was writing about very well, and helped me to understand the realilty of the drug wars we face here and abroad.
